KP, Equal House, The Difference

Hello again,

KP uses the placidus western house system, the sidereal (vedic) zodiac, and

the vimshottari dasha nakshatra lords and sub lords (bhuktis), as the main

parts of it's system. They look at the ruling nakshatra lord and bhukti

level, sometimes 3rd level, for the planets, and house cusps, using the

placidus house system.

For those who don't know it, briefly, the placidus house system is like

Sripati quite a bit, but, in Western, hence KP, the rising angle, in my case

8 degrees of Aries, becomes the START of the first house, and NOT the

middle. In standard Jyotish, or Vedic, the first house angle is the Madhya

of the Bhava, the house, not the start of it.

Generally we use equal-sign-equal-house-full sign-full-house, in our rasi

charts. We also sometimes make use of bhava charts. None of this is as clear

as in KP.

In KP, they start the first house at the lagna. They start the tenth house

at the midheaven, etc.

I want to make one point about this:

Note that Krishnamurti was seen to have immense passion- so do Westerners in

general, moreso than Indians in general. Agression is obvious in his books,

and now we hear "skirt chasing at later age also", which is indicative.

Western life, the whole of it, is based on anticipation of things to come,

ie, lust and desire. It is based on Roman ways which dominated long ago and

do to this day, including it's alphabet, concepts, so much. It is

materialistic, which India's ancient culture stands at odds against.

Note that when you take lagna as first house, you are saying, that the

person, the first house, the main house, it's "ALL YET TO COME"

Not a single bit of it has risen. It's all "coming"

In Vedic, half of it has risen, meaning, "you are partly made of what has

transpired before"

These are concepts of READING the chart, which reflect concepts of life,

concepts of spirituality.

Clearly to me, one is more true, but it has roots in the possibly

uncomfortable past.

Last night, my sons friend said to me, as the two of them listened to rap

music while I visited them:

"It's normal for every generation to rebel against the previous one"

Well, NORMAL in the West perhaps. Not in the East, and not in most cultures

of ancient times, but NORMAL to the modern West, yes, correct.

You see, rebellion means to avoid the past, kill it, bury it, overcome it,

and move on. This is the Western mentality since Rome, hence, it's in

Western Astrology greatly so. It's all about "becoming" and "you" as opposed

to "adherence, history, tradition" and "your ancestors and God".

So, neither is right or wrong, but both exist, and are different. One is

independent, cavalier, self seeking (not necessarily a bad thing), and the

other is adherent, remembering, responsible, dealing with history, dealing

with God.

Note that Andrew is hot, note that he said "people wanna know what's going

to happen"... and so on.

These things indicate that Western "me" and passion, both. It's different in

the East, especially ancient India, where Jyotish arises from.

--------------------

None of this or the past posts indicate my dislike for Andrew, because

factually I really like him. Don't mistake my dry reason for likes or

dislikes, approval or disaproval, I'm just playing dry intellect to avoid

thinking about my own problems right now, which are really hard for me to to

deal with, lonliness, a dead end relationship, too much work, financial

stress, it's easier to play intellectual for a few minutes distraction...

--------------------

What are we seeking when we work and live with so much difficulty?

Our ancestors spoke of various paradises they sought either in this world or

the next, and for that they labored, tolerating great austerities which we

today have no idea about, due to the luxury's created by the industrial

revolution. But where are we going?

If we are hoping to come to some balanced state, free from war and severe

grief like war, serious disease, etc., then certainly we will have to

include nature, and whatever other divine forces we understand as key to our

existence. We will probably be interested in things like responsibility,

stability, proper dealings, and so on. We will probably see the necessity of

honoring parents, so that our children honor us, and so on. We will probably

find ourselves back in Vedic Ancient times, more or less.

We are, whether we like it or not, partly made of the past, and partly we

are unfolding. THese are all relative concepts.

So how do you want to read the chart?

I think that the "start of things" is key to understanding them. I think

that Prabhupada's nature colored ISKCON, and that Krishnamurti colored his

"Padhati", that each of us color our works with our qualities, it's

automatic actually. The Placidus house system- why? From where does that

arise, from where comes the authority to switch sandhi and madhya? Of

course, nobody stops us, so then, the students, later, must examine- who do

I want to follow, and why, maybe all? maybe my own inventions? maybe adhere

to the old, thinking that it may be best? the new thinker, who is witty and

quick minded?

choices, crowded with hints, reading around the issue may be your guide, as

omens are attached to all things always, how do you feel when you touch

something? do you know your own best interests, or are you constantly

subverting yourself? when you love yourself, and listent to yourself, and

are worthy of same in your own mind, then you can be your own guide, and

decide which apple is red and sweet, and which is green and bitter

now I go to try to follow my own words

peace

r or d, undecided... ;-)

Dear Das

The thing about Richard Houck's chart is he thought Saturn was going to give

him long life as it was in the rashi 8th house. In reality this malefic

Saturn is within 5 minutes of being totally square to the angles as in

Placidus calculations. That is the midheaven and I.C. It is casting its most

malefic aspect to his 4th house cusp which is the real ending of life house

I feel.

Now on the day of his death, transit Saturn which was in the nakshatra of

Sun indicating the event involved a maraka 2nd house. This is because Sun

natally sits in nakshatra of Mercury who is his 2nd house with sub-lord

ruler of lagna Venus. The sub or executor of Saturn was Saturn himself his

dire maraka for death.

Now wherever he is I'm sure he is finding it quite amusing he totally got

the nature of his Saturn so wrong. Saturn in the rashi is in the 8th house

so physically relates to the bowels and rectum. Saturn is the planet of

chronic waisting disease like cancer. Functionally as in the KP system

Saturn is a dire killer.

P.S I found that book "Eastern systems for Western Astrologers" in a

throwout box at a bookstore for $6. It usually retails for $42 here. There

is a very good article by Hart Defouw on the need for realistic

interpretation of ancient texts while still remaining loyal to their

unchanging principals. It is a very good article and if I could type fast I

would transcribe it for the group to read.

Now one of the big problems with Parasaras light 2000 is you cannot use any

other house systems when calculating charts. Can your software flip between

house systems?? I must use Solar Fire and flip back to PL to get rulers of

cusps. Its a pain in the arse. My goal is to remember every sub-lord degree

like Krishnamurti so when you know where a planet is placed you know its

sub.
