Guest guest
All, I didn;t catch all of the thread on the Vedic Astrology List, where the subject first appeared, only a few fragments, but I have been thinking about this subject for quite some time, and so this is what I have to say. I think that any business in America would do well and be very wise to consider carefully what happened to Enron, Martha Stewart and the like. Any business that puts profits before human beings is in essence, evil, and will be dealt with, by the Universe itself, in due course. Because of my dual background in AStrology, Western and Vedic, I can appreciate both sides of this issue. I have no problem at all with an Astrologer being able to make a good living from his or her skill and expertise, as every servent is worthy of his hire, as the Scriptures say. But at the same time, I think there is something to be said for giving back to the community as well. This is the major reason why I have volunteerd my time as an instructor of Astrology at Temple U for the past 4 years. I have deep seated problems with many Astrologers who, under the guise of helping others, fleece them for everything that got; I have problems with many of these people doing this, and are in essence little more than snake oil salesman. I have problems with the very good Astrologers that are so intent on making a buck that they would charge their own family relations for the service!!! Such things only gives Astrology overall a bigger black eye. For several years, I was in a bind as to how to deal with the issue of money making in Astrology; after all, I have intensely studied the subject, two totally different systems, for a combinaed total of 10 years. I should be able to to make some money from the enterprise. But at the same time, I don't want to do what I described above. I would a major hard time getting some sleep at night if I did or even tried. That is why, at present, I have a view that my services, should one want to hire them, are such that anyone can afford them (no more than $100 US for horoscope analysis, fees for weekend seminars are negotiable, etc). And, I have a policy that no one - NO ONE will be turned away, simply because they have no money. I take great pride in my work, and I have yet to have anyone that was not satisfied with it. I think this is an issue that, as AStrology becomes more and more acceptable to the educated public in the West/USA, that will require more of our attention. I don't know if it will result in a sort of price-rate fixing, or what, but I think that the major thing that we have to do is to try to weed out those fakes and phonies that abuse people, and those that are very competent, yet over-charge and end up doing same. I would be very interested in hearing how we could go about doing of this. Salaam, Mu ===== Mu'Min M.
