Dear Cynthia,

I hope this note finds you well.

All is not as 'quiet' in Australia as I would like!. I use the chart for

Federation: 1st January 1901, 12.00.01am (144E58 37S49) Asc 14Vi54.

I am glad we are kept out of the news. It gives the impression we are

inconsequential. In truth we are a prime piece of real estate rich in natural

resources, sitting at the gateway to Asia. Being "Western",read: owned by US

and British interests, we are hated by our predominately Islamic neighbours.

Like Americans, the average Australian lives with a false sense of security

and arrogance, with little understanding of our broader history and other

cultures.

When Australian Embassies were forced to close in Indonesia, Malaysia and

Timor during the Sept 11th commemerations it was reported as a bruised "Why

us"??.

The years of bloodshed and fighting between Muslims and Christians in Lombok

and Ambon are hardly reported. So too the plight of the indigene in Irian Jaya

(West Papua). For 30yrs Australia also turned a blind eye to the suffering of

the Timorese people until oil was discovered in the Timor sea.

As a nation we plunder the resources of neighbouring developing countries;

Colonialism or Imperialism have been replaced by another more 'acceptable' tag

of a New World Order!.

The Australian government would offer military support to a US lead war on

Iraq, or anywhere else for that matter, with or without UN sanctions.

Actually, I was expecting a double dissolution of parliament during the last

Saturn/Rahu conjunction. Instead, the Democrats, a smaller party which has held

the balance of power for a number of years imploded due to infighting. I expect

this dissolution of the majority party when Saturn retrogrades into Taurus next

year. Australia will follow America even though its stance will not be popular

with the people.

Internationally, as per the Eclipse path, Australia is leading the push to

have Zimbabwe expelled from the 'Commonwealth'. (although I see Mugabe is

accepting genetically modified grain as US aide for his people!).

Domestically, Central Eastern Australia (from Queensland to North Western

Victoria) is experiencing a crippling drought with a locust plague heading

south from Central Australia this summer.

The december path will cut directly through South Central Australia affecting

sites such as Woomera, a nuclear testing range and strife ridden refugee

detention centre!.

Jabiru, a uranium mining enterprise (US/British/Australian) on Aboriginal

titled land in the Northern Territory receives a diluted glance before sunset.

This operation is hotly disputed especially by the native caretakers. The

Aborigines maintain a destructive serpent lies coiled in the mountain (yes, a

mountain of uranium!), and if disturbed will rise up and destroy humanity. Only

elder males go to this site for ceremonies to appease the serpent, as it is

considered far too dangerous for women and the young. Even the elders are

frightened of this serpent, they avoid the area but undertake a yearly

pilgrimage to the site as a community duty.

I love my country and her people but I am not proud of our history and

policies, however, in trying times such as these 'better the devil you know...'
