Read, "Genesis", about Adam and Eve, and how this there mistake has led to all the trouble. It's an allegory, stating basically that duality leads to pain. The tree of knowledge, yes, cuts the one into two, therefore Gyan is not itself bliss. Original sin is one way of saying "oh crap, we took birth again". That's what you're supposed to get out of that, but in general, without any cultural training, the old kind, eveybody hates everything, and everyone, and understands little. The word "Sadhu" which is "Saint" also means "to cut" which means "the saint cuts away illusion, also divides the nameless whole into many named parts, creating knowledge, which will let you see that you are naked, which is to be Jewish or Hindu apparently, whereas, without knowledge, you are a Celt, and don't need underwear!" What I have read is that St. Augustine as an old man read the writings of Paul. SA was so moved by Paul's reprisal of women that SA set about to make original sin part of the church's doctrine. It was not an easy task. It is hard to imagine that there was opposition to blaming Eve for all the ills of mortal existence but there was. SA would not be put off. He sent a stallion to each member of (I can't recall what they were called but essentially the board of directors of the church). From this bribery this idea became doctrine. Oh, I forgot to mention that SA was very old and rather bitter at this time. He was forced to return from Africa and was what appears now to have been a depression.
