Guest guest
Charlton Heston and Alzheimer's Disease Sunday, August 11, 2002 All, The other day, famed actor Charlton Heston announced via video tape, that he was diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease, a degenerative condition that effects the brain's ability to retain information, and, as well, other key bodily functions. There is, at present, no cure. Heston, who is also a long time supporter of the National Rifle Association and has been its President since 1998, said that he wishes to remain in his post and finish out his term, which ends next Spring. A quick look at his chart, in Vedic mode, shows very clearly, very easily, his condition, and gives us valuable clues as to what to look out for when it comes to AD. Charlton Heston Oct 4, 1923 7:55am CST Evanston, IL USA Vedic Asc, Lahiri: 10 Lib 57 Source: Lois Rodden AstroDatabank When it comes to diseases of the brain, we have to consider the "mental" planets, the Moon and Mercury; if either or both of these bodies are afflicted, that is to say, under stress by malefic planets, with little to no help from benefics, we can expect there to be problems at some point akin to what Heston is experiencing at this time. Of course, a reliable rule-of-thumb is, the older a person is, the greater likelihood degenerative disease will manifest itself thru the horoscope. While I'm on this point, allow me to state the following: of all the Planets in Vedic Astrology, only one has the ability to be both in its own AND exaltation sign at the same time - Mercury. Mercury, known as "Buddha" in Vedic Astrology, represents intelligence, logic and all other functions that separates Humans from the rest of the animals on the Earth. As Guru Nanak, the founder of the Sikh Faith once said, "If you have conquered your Mind, you have conquered the World". He, as so many other spiritually evolved beings understood the power of the Mental Planets, the Moon and Mercury. More recently, allopathic Western doctors have "discovered" the link between the mind and physical body, and the extent to which their connection or lack thereof plays such an important role in matters related to disease. Therefore, it is most wise to consider, in the chart of any human being, the condition of the Moon and Mercury in the horoscope. Here, in Heston's chart, we see that while the Moon is in good shape, being both in its own Sign Cancer, in Jupiter's Naksatra Punarvasu, and being Vargottoma in the Navamsa, we cannot say the same thing for Mercury. Mercury, while placed in its exaltation Sign of Virgo, is nonetheless in the 12 house - and - it is retrograde. While classical authorities maintain that retrograde planets gain even more strength, I must say, that I disagree with this view, and Heston's chart is just one of many examples why I said this. Retrograde planets are weakened, and greatly harm the things that they represent. To make matters worse, Mercury is placed in the 3 house from the Moon, which has to do, to a certain extent, incurable diseases, like AD, as the 3 house is 8 houses away from the 8 house, and therefore, is considered in some ways even more pernicious than the 8 itself. Note how Mercury associates with Venus, who is the 8 lord from the Asc; Venus is debilitated, and all of this only heightens what is indicated from the Moon's view. Saturn is here as well, and while it is the Yoga Karaka for a Libra Asc, it is still a natural malefic. In fact, Mercury is beaten down by all three malefics here in the 12 house - the Sun, Saturn, and debilitated Venus, who acts as a malefic, both because of its association with fellow natural malefics Sun and Saturn, but also because, Mercury's inability to change things due to its weakened retrograde state and placement in the 12. Please keep in mind, that the 12 house from any house, represents losses for that house so concerned; in this case, it represents the loss (12 house) of Heston's mental functions (Mercury Rx, etc). Also, note how Virgo, the Sign of Mercury, is just chock-full of malefics. In Vedic Medical Astrology, one way to assess potentially weak cites in the body, is to determine to what extent malefic planets inhabit the Signs, and what those Signs rule anatomically. When we turn to the Navamsa, we see how really bad Heston's situation is: Mercury is now debilitated, and this just goes to underscore a very important principle of Vedic Astrology, concerning the primacy of the Navamsa. Planets can be seen as strong in the Rasi (Natal) chart, but unless you check out the Navamsa, you never really know to what extent those planets are strong or weak. The Navamsa's role is so important, that even if planets in the natal chart are exalted, if those same planets turn up debilitated in the Navamsa, their ability to "do good" is greatly weakened, if not destroyed outright. Further, from the Navamsa Asc, Mercury rules the 6 house! This a clear echo of the troubles we have seen in the natal chart for Heston, and only portends more trouble for the actor. Mercury is associated with Ketu in the Navamsa, and both are placed in the 3 house, which again is an echo of the 8 house. And, note how again malefics are placed in Signs owned by Mercury - Saturn and Rahu are in Virgo, and the Sun is in Gemini. I should also point out here, that the Nodes have also shown themselves to play an important role when it comes to diseases of the brain/mind. Remember, the Nodes, Rahu and Ketu, are based on the Moon, the key, utmost planet of the Mind - and Brain. With all this said, it should come as no surprise then, that when we check the Dasas for Heston at this time, that he would be passing thru a period in which one of the Nodes, Rahu, would be involved. Right now, he is running Venus/Rahu, and will not end until Heston is in his early 80s, in the year 2005. In that Venus is the Asc Lord, is placed in a 2/12 relationship from Rahu in both natal and Navamsa charts, with Venus in the 12 in the Rasi and in the 8 in the Navamsa, I say that there is little chance that he is likely to recover - in fact, this Dasa period could prove critical for his lifespan. The debility of the Asc Lord, its placement by house, and its relationship to Rahu, along with Heston's advanced age, are all unfavorable signs for recovery. If, on the other hand, he IS able to weather the storm, and get thru this period, help could come in the form of the sub period of Jupiter, which begins in Feb of 2005. Jupiter, while a functional malefic in his chart (due to its lordship of the 3 and 6 houses) still has the ability to do good, and can play a role here. Note how it forms a powerful Gaja-Kesari Yoga, as both it and the Moon are in angular houses from the Asc, and the Moon is in its own sign of Cancer. No doubt this has contributed to his success as an actor, as the Moon plays a huge role in the Arts. Heston is perhaps best known for his role as the Biblical Moses in the 60s epic, "The Ten Commandments" and for his role as the Astronaut Leo Davison in the original "Planet of The Apes". Both of these films came out in the 60s, and at the time, Heston was running the Dasa of Saturn, lord of the 4 and 5 houses, giving it YK status in the chart. Note how the very same combination of planets that have played a role in Heston's current situation have also brought him fame - Saturn is associated with exalted Mercury, lord of the 9 (Luck); Venus, lord of the Asc and 8 (The Physical Self and Sexual Attraction) and the Sun, lord of the 11 (Gains, Big Money made from the Movies). Just another example of how the planets can represent many different things, on different levels, at different times. Salaam, Mu ===== Mu'Min M. Guest guest
Dear Mu and others. HEston has a perfect Danda yoga formed by all the planets in consecutive houes 10-1. This yoga makes a person loose everything in life and is quite severe. I always wondered how he could loose it all after having such a successful life and being adored by so many people. Loosing his mind is certainly loosing it all- so the Danda yoga gives the foundation for something of this sort to happen. Generally people with Danda yoga loose things slowly- thier spouse, then thier job, then the respect of their children, peers, etc. Take Care, Ernst Wilhelm - "Mu'Min Bey" <mumin_bey <gjlist> Cc: <panastroforum Tuesday, August 13, 2002 10:43 AM [GJ] Charlton Heston and Alzheimer's Disease > Charlton Heston and Alzheimer's Disease > Sunday, August 11, 2002 > > All, > The other day, famed actor Charlton Heston announced > via video tape, that he was diagnosed with Alzheimer's > Disease, a degenerative condition that effects the > brain's ability to retain information, and, as well, > other key bodily functions. Guest guest
Dear ??? CLinton has two prevelant Nabhasa/Akriti Yogas, Ardha Chandra and Danda. Ardha chandra is good foundation yoga, so he will probably only loose half. Though REagan lost his mind largely due to the Saturn Moon Rahu in Aries, he maintained his marriage and continued to make public appearances. If you are interested in the Nabhasa YOgas more, please visit my site where I have an extenive article on them. www.vedic astrology.net Jai Ram, Ernst Wilhelm - "idasgupta98" <idasgupta98 <gjlist> Wednesday, August 14, 2002 9:46 PM Re: [GJ] Charlton Heston and Alzheimer's Disease > question: does anyone know if Ronald Reagan (also an Alzheimer's > disease patient) and Bill Clinton (talk about a man who loses - or > may lose - everything, including respect) have danda yoga? > > gjlist, "Ernst Wilhelm" <ernst@v...> wrote: > > Dear Mu and others. > > HEston has a perfect Danda yoga formed by all the planets in > consecutive > > houes 10-1. Guest guest
Dear Nicholas I do not know anything about Heston's biography. I do know that he is well respected in his field and is said to be a serious and hard working actor. I'm questioning if the diagnosis of Alzheimer's is correct. This disease cannot be truly diagnoses until the brain is examined after death. I wonder just how to look at it from the chart itself. If I am not mistaken, Altzheimer's is a disease that affects the synapses in the brain. The ability of the nerves to connect. I have heard that aluminum builds up in the brain somehow. I do no doubt the description of the dhandi (sp?) yoga that Ernst describes but something seems missing. If I relocate the chart to Los Angeles where he gained fame. The whole chart shifts one rasi. Virgo becomes the lagna. This certainly shows the success and the deliberate and determined mind. It just makes me wonder about the accuracy of the chart. I see the Mars Rahu and I know how focused folks with this placement are. I can even see the man's ability to put forth his agenda and be a powerful leader. It just does not fit for me that he would have this illness. Why now with Jupiter on the Moon? I can see the sadness from Saturn aspecting Mars which it will again and station tightly aspecting Mars in January, but I don't see the link to neurological problems. OK so what if it is true and Mercury in the 12th suggests mental weakness. Why would it wait until old age? If Saturn is a great friend to the chart and in the 12th with Venus in a raja yoga would that not mean a peaceful ending years rather than living with the fear of losing your mind? Just musing and hoping any and all will enlighten me. Oh, I also have the Moon Sun Saturn period. And talk about courage to make a public statement like that! Wow! c - "Nicholas" <jyotish108 <gjlist> Wednesday, August 14, 2002 10:30 PM Re: [GJ] Charlton Heston and Alzheimer's Disease > Dear Mu > How do you explain Charlton Heston's success and generally good status in > the industry . > Also you state that he is running Venus Rahu but I get that he is running > Moon Sun although I get the same Lagna as yourself . > Thanks in advance > Nicholas > > - > "Mu'Min Bey" <mumin_bey > <gjlist> > Cc: <panastroforum > Wednesday, August 14, 2002 3:43 AM > [GJ] Charlton Heston and Alzheimer's Disease > > > > Charlton Heston and Alzheimer's Disease > > Sunday, August 11, 2002 > > > > All, > > The other day, famed actor Charlton Heston announced > > via video tape, that he was diagnosed with Alzheimer's > > Disease, a degenerative condition that effects the > > brain's ability to retain information, and, as well, > > other key bodily functions. Guest guest
Dear Cynthia I think a late Virgo ascendent would make sense .Then he would be running the Bhukti of Sun as 12th LOrd losses to the body and PD of Saturn illness ..There are then stong yogas for sucess and wealth in the chart .The Sun as 12th Lord of loss conjunct 1st Lord of brain would then be a natal trigger for the Alzheimer's affliction .I really cannot see the succeess ,wealth and fame from the Libra chart unless one start's digging for very obscure principles of Jyotish .He's a funny mix in his latter years he has persued esoteric interests while still being a spokesman for the rednecks .Sun in 1st would also bestow courage and leadershoip as distinct from Sun in 12th . Someone could argue that this as a case where relocation has been immensely beneficial . Nice as always to hear from you . Guest guest
Dear Nicholas I suspect that we need to see where the birth data originated. I'll check with astro databank. Could it be that the relocation chart has become more valid than the birth chart? Guest guest
I found him listed in Lois Rodden Astro-Data IV This date and time given source listed and stated that it is from birth certificate in hand. No DST to confuse it, so this appears to be the right chart. Always humbling to see the exceptions. c - "Nicholas" <jyotish108 <gjlist> Friday, August 16, 2002 7:13 PM Re: [GJ] Charlton Heston and Alzheimer's Disease > Dear Cynthia > > > > > Dear Nicholas > > I suspect that we need to see where the birth data originated. Guest guest
Dear Cynthia, there is a good chance of course that the diagnoses is incorrect, since medical doctors diagnose accurately about 40% of the time. I have not studied alzeheimers in the horoscope, but I would expect an afflicted 1st house, 2nd house, Mercury, and Jupiter. Jupiter rules the brain, Mercury afflicted harms the nerves and the 2nd house influences the memory, and the 1st house is the brain. In Heston's chart he entered Mars Dasa in April of 2002, Mars is the 2nd lord right in fatal degree and with Rahu, so pretty afficted. It is aspected by Jupiter, who though as the 6th lord will only support disease, Jupiter, the brain is also afflicted by this Mars Rahu conjucntion, as well as from Ketu- all through rasi aspects. Mercury is debilitated in the navamsa and has the two problematic malefics, Mars and Rahu in the 12th from it. The lagna has the same malefics influencing it as Jupiter and the lagna lord is also afflicted in the 12th. So there is a lot of malefic influences there. It is also bad in the navamsa, Jupiter is rasi aspected by Rahu Ketu, Mars and Saturn and debilitated Mercury, Mercury is also influenced by many malefics, so is Mars. Fatal degree planets are always so important for medical astrology, chronic and terrible things are instigated by them, so the Dasa of Mars gives the disease. Guest guest
Dear Ernst Thank you for the detailed insights. I understand it from the standpoint of Mars MD but I find that he is not entering Mars MD until 11-03-2002. What dhasha system do you use? I show that he is still in Moon Sun with Jupiter exalted just transiting the Moon in CA in the 10th. c - "Ernst Wilhelm" <ernst <gjlist> Saturday, August 17, 2002 1:05 AM Re: [GJ] Charlton Heston and Alzheimer's Disease > Dear Cynthia, > there is a good chance of course that the diagnoses is incorrect, since > medical doctors diagnose accurately about 40% of the time. Guest guest
Dear Cynthia, I am using Vimshottari Dasa, but with a slightly different Ayanamsa than Lahiri. The ayanamsa I use is 23 minutes less than Lahiri, which means each planet moves 23 minutes forwards in the zodiac as compared to Lahiri. Take Care, Ernst Wilhelm cynthia novak [sMTP:c.a.novak (AT) worldnet (DOT) att.net] Saturday, August 17, 2002 11:34 AM gjlist Re: [GJ] Charlton Heston and Alzheimer's Disease Dear Ernst Thank you for the detailed insights. I understand it from the standpoint of Mars MD but I find that he is not entering Mars MD until 11-03-2002. What dhasha system do you use? I show that he is still in Moon Sun with Jupiter exalted just transiting the Moon in CA in the 10th. c - "Ernst Wilhelm" <ernst (AT) vedic astrology (DOT) net> <gjlist> Saturday, August 17, 2002 1:05 AM Re: [GJ] Charlton Heston and Alzheimer's Disease > Dear Cynthia, > there is a good chance of course that the diagnoses is incorrect, since > medical doctors diagnose accurately about 40% of the time. Guest guest
Dear Ernst Would you mind sharing how you came to use this one? I have great results with my own chart and others who have Moon in the 1st. I have not had the best timing in those that do not have this. It speaks volumes when you see Heston's chart in the Mars MD. Thank you for your time c - Ernst Wilhelm gjlist Sunday, August 18, 2002 12:49 AM Re: [GJ] Charlton Heston and Alzheimer's Disease Dear Cynthia, I am using Vimshottari Dasa, but with a slightly different Ayanamsa than Lahiri.
