Guest guest
Dear Renee I cannot find your posting about Santeria but I would like here to add some comments. In my natal country Mexico we learn a lot about Santeria from an early age. We also like to treat black people as brothers. When the boats carrying slaves from Africa to the US, they used to stop in the port of Veracruz on the Gulf of Mexico. While in there, some black slaves jumped from the boats and Mexican helps them to hidden and escape. In fact even in our days there is a lot of black people living in Veracruz, which is a very big city. In Mexico City, the capital of the country, there is a big market place called the Sonora Market. It has 404 shops and of them 71 are shops of Santeria, where people purchase medicinal herbs, candles, etc. Many people in Mexico believe in Santeria even if officially the main religion is Catholic. It is difficult to explain that belief to those that have not been exposed to it. The other day I was talking to a friend born in a rich country, where rarely are exposed to Santeria. My friend told me that because I believe in Santeria, I am prone to be affected by it. I said that not believing is not a guarantee of protection. It is like fire, does not matter if we do not believe that fire can burn, and fire will burn the believer or no believer. It is like the so call “evil eye”, we know well in Mexico that even an envious look can “curse one” and there are amulets like the called “deer’s eye” which is a seed in the shape of a deer’s eye which protects one from the that curse. The Prasna Marga has planetary positions describing the evil eye curse. Best wishes Natabara das*
