Guest guest
Several people have written to me , using Macs asking about klez...please go to the Symatec website and click on to the "security" and then search under klez, or "spoofing". Once again, This thing looooves using Outlook Express to do its business. Also, while a Mac OS can't be taken down, ie broken, by klez the Outlook Mail used can pass it on. The only system it can force down is Windows OS not Mac OS. Anyone for switiching over to Netscape and the mail system in that instead of using Outlook?? Read the "spoofing" part. The virus has the capability to go into an address book and randomly paste ANY address as sender, folks. ANY address in one's address book. And then send it off to anyone else it chooses from the same book. And it is capable of mutating, too. As Carol said, yeah someone started it, all right. But that still doesn't mean we've got some jerk on this list who is sending it out intentionally, either. At this point, so far along, it is likely to be random "spoofing.". There is so little evidence of a purposeful attack on the list, in fact none, I suppse. It this were a court, you'd have a hard time hainging anything on the "invisible" lurker with what there is to go on... This need for people to put blame on an anonymous member on the list...is unsettleing. What next? Burn a figure in effigy? Find the techno witch from Salem? There's really no evidence of that. There is evidence of what is called spoofing. Still, we're all entitled to our opinions. Since it's upsetting to so many of us, one way or the other, wouldn't it be nice if the virus coming from the mail could be deleted-well, it IS deleted---I mean even the posting contaning it--be deleted ---by out moderator before it hits. But as the list posts to many of you one entry at a time, that isn't likely, unless everything then goes out on delayed or by digest only, I suppose. (And how dreary that would be.) Or else we just continue along as we are now, unitl it finally wears it's little self out... Gee, what a lot I must be missing out on, with my not having Microssoft word eveen installd into the Mac I'm using now! About 80% of the time I can'[t open attachments.. I assume you all know that about 1 out of every 300 e-mails in the world now had klez attached to it. That was last week. The incidence may be higher this week. I'm clueless on that. I have been told repeatedly that www.grisoft.com has excellent free downloads for all you PC folks that will fix the problem for you of any incoming and out going mail. Norton maybe about all that's availible for us Mac folkies. Very Best Wishes, D.
