Guest guest
OOOOOOkay, so did anyone else on the list get an e-mail with an attachment saying Moon phases something or other with my name on it as sender? Robyn, who i think may be in New Zealand, just wrote this morning saying she received an e-mail from me, ie, venerablebede, throught the gjlist containing an attachment with klez in it. I have a Mac, I can't get the virus. To the best of my knowledge this was a case of spoofing--taking one address from soneone's book and placing it on the e-mail part marked "from" Well, to the best of my knowledge, it wasn't from me...but from someone's address book on the list, i assume without the anti-virus stuff on their computer.....And while I can't get the virus, it may have passed on through my Outlook system, according to the Norton stuff I read, but not likely since I have their anti-virus software on....installed, whatever. And if it did, you have my heart felt apologies, folks, whoever you may be... BTW, Carol Hook, I think you wrote to me privately last month and I forgot to acknowledge it.. Thanks fro writing. I've lost your address until it shows back up on the list... Another great reason, ie, klez, to be using Netscape instead of Outlook Express, I guess, for my mailings, again...adios Outlook Express. I keep getting all these attachments from Indians I don't think I know. Like who for instance, is nbhatia_74 or is it nbhartia_74? or mathur_visvanathan? Is this happening to anyone else, or am i the lucky sole recipient, here? (Hey, if you're single, have nerves of titanium--you'll need them in my vicinity--and over say...40...give it another shot, hmm? I'll get back you.) Last month it was "Japanese Sexy Ladies" from a Shiva center in Hallam, Australia.... Best Wishes, Denise Notley
Guest guest
Thanks for your warning, Denise! I agree that we have been individually targeted from the names d to our list. Someone is sending out email supposedly from our names, with attached viruses, and I suspect it is the person using "om (AT) bomship (DOT) com" email address since I have repeatedly asked that email address to discontinue sending viruses to us.....and my email is refused...while there was a time when that site kept bouncing emails back to me saying there is no "Lonnie (AT) bomship (DOT) com" address, and when I wrote the site decribing how to from GJList, it wouldn't do that. I'm thinking we have a disgruntled r who wants us to get viruses rather than merely himself from our list. Hopefully, most of us have software that's up to date regarding viruses....but if not, please, everybody, do not accept attachments from our list, no matter how intriguing the email sounds, unless that attachment is fully described by the sender so you know precisely what it is. If it's a short description with a mysterious note such as , "I thought you might like this!" or "I found this neat program for you!" then you can discard it as being a virus--(or write to the sender for a detailed description before you will open the attachment).....since virus emails will not actually tell you what you are about to receive. Guest guest
Dear Carol I agree with you! There is also the name (I believe) Mailer Daemon. I have Symantec regularly updated but the number of viruses it is catching from this list is beyond a coincidence. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to look at the names and figure out that something rotten is up. c - Carolhook (AT) aol (DOT) com gjlist Monday, June 17, 2002 6:19 AM Re: [GJ] klez virus Dear Denise and listmembers, Thanks for your warning, Denise! Guest guest
Hello Everyone, I'm new to the list, and very new to learning astrology. Most of your posts are way over my head, but I'm trying to learn in spite of this. Regarding the virus that's been coming through this group: I believe the sender probably isn't even aware he/she has the virus in the first place. I've had several friends over the years who had viruses on their computers and didn't know it. I really doubt we're dealing with a disgruntled r. There are many folks on the net who are new to computers, who don't understand what viruses are and how they work. If you use a virus protection program, you won't even have to concern yourself with the email subject line, as a good virus program will snag the virus when you're downloading your email.
