Guest guest
Hi All. Although many people are aware of Western astrology, no many know about Vedic astrology or Jyotish. Jyotish is the astrological science that is a part of the Vedas. The Vedas are the oldest knowledge in humanity and were compiled into writing by Vyasadeva and Ganesh, some 5,000 years ago. Before that, the Vedas and including jyotish were given orally, and kept in memory. Books were not needed because it is only in this Kali Yuga that we need books, because our memory has diminished. Jyotish and the Vedic knowledge are destined to come back in this age to help astrologers in their counselling and predictive tasks. Therefore, it is nice to see that a female journalist like Robyn started the important and needed enterprise of publishing a jyotish magazine. I would like to encourage every reader to read her web site because very interesting news and articles will be seen there. Below you will have the address to her web site and her warm welcome. Best wishes Natabara Das http://www.jyotishdiscovery.com/ EDITOR'S CORNER Namaste! I greet the Divine in you in the traditional Vedic manner. Welcome to Jyotish Discovery, the e-zine dedicated to research and scholarship in Jyotish and the Vedic Sciences. This is my little corner where I shall keep you up to date on what's happening with this website and any interesting news on Jyotish. Please feel free to contact me if you have any suggestions, articles, news or something to advertise that might be of interest to Jyotish scholars. You can contact me HERE. The logo on the right symbolises the lotus, that most beautiful flower of India. I have chosen it for this website because my Moon lies in my 3rd house in the nakshatra of Anuradha. The deity of this nakshatra (lunar star) is Mitra, god of friendship and daylight. And the symbol is that of the lotus flower drawing its sustenance from the dark mud of the water bed and bringing its glory up and out into the sunlight. It is a symbol which has long fascinated me - long before I found Jyotish. According to Dr Dennis M. Harness, in his book, The Nakshatras, this symbol 'reflects the ability and perseverence to blossom in the midst of life's trials and tribulations'. He goes on to say, 'The residing deity is Mitra, the God of friendship and partnership who promotes co-operation among humanity. Mitra is a benevolent Sun God imparting compassion, devotion, and love'. So, it was thus appropriate that this was the symbol that I should chose to launch our website. I dedicate this website to Maharishi Parasara, the great sage of Jyotish, and the author of the most ancient scripture of Vedic astrology, the Brihat Parasara Hora Sastra. These writings of his have been handed down from generation to generation through a chain of disciples. But, in due time, they were almost lost to the world and some dedicated scholars have brought these writings to surface once more for the benefit of mankind. As Robert Koch has succinctly pointed out in his analysis of current planetary placements on the News page, this current time not only presages the possible horrors of war, but also the resurgence of interest and need around the world for the spiritual knowledge of India. He also points out that Jyotish and its related Vedic sciences will play a major role in this renewal of spiritual values and this was one of the reasons I decided to go ahead and be part of this exciting new world that we shall be moving into in the coming years. Let us pray that India and its people are spared the horrors of war and that those in conflict can come to an amicable solution. India is the birthplace of this knowledge that has been given so freely to the world. May she be kept safe. Perhaps it was not the most auspicious time to lauch a new product considering these planetary placements. However, as has been proved many times in history, sometimes in desperate times desperate measures are required. And I hope that Jyotish Discovery. Com with its able leadership of Robert Koch will help in some small way to spreading the good news of Jyotish and its remarkable healing qualities. The material presented here is but a small example of what I hope to collect from authors and writers over the next few months. Please to the email list on the front page of the website so that I may get a better idea of your needs and interests for this website. May the light of Jupiter shine down upon us all! Best wishes Robyn
