Guest guest
Vivek, Vivek, Vivek. <sigh> You know, Michel Gauquelin, a tropical astrologer and a statitician, found pertentile evidence that astrology can predict careers fields. KN Rao is spending the rest of his golden years working on proving that astrology is statistically accurate.....with a healthy sized team from his school in Dehli. How can you say that we just have to believe it? Nope, it's okay and necessary to work on proving it's accuracy, otherwise it's turned it into some sort of a cult. No wonder so many scientists say astrologers are charlatans...... Best Wishes, Denise -------- Chris: I'm terrribly sorry for all of you that your father was a violent man. I still hear tales like that about one of my grandfathers, long dead. Well, you know, there are a lot of different ways to look at things. Different angles to the same questions. What was the physical cause of your deafness? Measles? A virus settleing in your ear? Genetics? Some astrologers may be able to see where the deafness comes from your past lives...Others hold the theory that we pick our lives, and map them out before we are born. Maybe you charted this out for yourself for some reason, to experience deafness. Best Wishes, Denise PS: One of my cousins teaches at the state deaf school here in Oklahoma. He's been there for about 25 years, I think. An aunt on my other sign also worked with the deaf--determined to teach then to speak, to live in a hearing world...I think my cousin is more liberal about his views... REGARDING PROVING THINGS---vedic astrology is not an empirical science where you do research and prove things. It is transcendental knowledge or a divine science which has to be accepted.---the eight house in a horoscope governs longevity(everyone knows this) but can you prove it? The original question is below.I hope someone can throw more light on my question. WITH BEST WISHES,VIVEK.
Guest guest
Oh Geeze, I'm trying not to respond to this but darn, all those planets have my fingers moving... . Gauquelin was a statistician. He looked at the charts of many athletes and found a correlation that many, not all, many had Mars near an angle of the western chart. There, they use the calculate MC and IC as well as the Lagna, and its opposing point the descendant. This does not mean to predict that everyone with an angular mars will be an athlete. Nor that everyone or even most folks with Jupiter near an angle will become an actor. The reason statisticians and probably scientists for that matter discredit astrological assertion are the very statements like you made that it predicts what will be. Statisticians (I live with one) find relevance in large studies where there participants do not know that they are dealing with an astrologer. They need to be a large cross-section of the population for there to be relevance. Astrologers, on the other hand deal with individuals and look for patterns, we usually deal with clients who know that they are talking to an astrologer... Anyway, astrology is not science and science is not astrology. The term science may be redefined in several ways but astrology has too much gray area to be hard science, if that is what you are referring to. Is astrology still relevant...Yes! But it is not science and likely will never be science. Why is it such a big deal for it to try to look like science to be relevant? Astrology looks at so many different and subtle variables. It is symbolic and ancient. It talks about the inner workings of a person not just cause and effect. In fact, there is no verifiable scientific proof that the planets cause anything. It is indeed compelling when we see the correlations between the various responses to say Saturn transiting the Moon from person to person. It is not cut and dried. This transit is very difficult for many but not at all difficult for some. Anyway, I'm rambling because it is late. I do not want to awaken a monster, I just wish that astrology could be seen as valid without that old science card being played. (I think this is a quote from James Hillman) Believe nothing but entertain possibilities. c - Denise Notley <venerablebede <gjlist> Wednesday, May 15, 2002 10:02 PM [GJ] Is it true: for Vivek and Chris Parnell... > > > Vivek, Vivek, Vivek. <sigh> > > You know, Michel Gauquelin, a tropical astrologer and a statitician, found > pertentile evidence that astrology can predict careers fields.
