Guest guest
Here is a short story I read this morning. It was told to Varsana dasi, a disciple of Sivarama Swami who works in the UK National Communications Office, by Romapada dasa who is the Secretary of the UK Hindu Council. HRH the Prince of Wales (Charles) had invited me to attend a reception to launch his interfaith project called "Respect" last Sunday. There were dignitaries from all the major faiths, and I attended as the General Secretary of the Hindu Council UK. The Prince of Wales unveiled his plans for cross community voluntary work across different faiths. He later came and shook hands with me, and I expressed the Hindu Council's support for his initiative and said we were priviliged to be a part of it. After this I told him that it was good that Britain had focussed on the wisdom of the Abrahamic traditions (Judaism, Christianity and Islam), but should now also start looking at the wisdom of the Eastern religions like Hinduism. The Vedic tradition, I said, contained the virtues of respect and tolerance as one of its fundamental principles. He agreed with me and said that this was very true and Hinduism had many principles that were relevant to interfaith respect and understanding. He then took two steps to walk away, then remembered something, came back, took my hands and said, "The Pandavas were one of the most tolerant of rulers. We must learn from the example set by the Pandavas." Kind regards Nicholas By then, the transit of Pluto into Sagittarius will be making a new breed of leaders and together, those 3 planets will indicate a new direction in human society, with a new and positive generation in power.
