Dear Shri Natabara Das and other learned Jyotishis,

JAI SHRI KRISHNA,

I have still not understood the co-relationship between:

1) Lagna Chart

2) Transit Chart

3) Vimshottari Dashas

Please explain how to use the above for determining timing of events

especially in a situation where;

1) The native is AWAY from the place of birth, e.g. may be the place of

birth is India in 1966 whereas in 2002 he/she is in Africa or Europe for

that matter. Is it that "Transit Horoscope" is casted for the native's

CURRENT residence or is casted basis his/her place of birth only.

2) Is Transit Horoscope mandatory to be READ in relationship with the Lagna

Chart and Vimshottari Dashas "or" only Lagna Chart and the Vimshottari

Dashas are ENOUGH and there is NO requirement to cast the CURRENT TRANSIT

CHART ?

Shri Natabara had posted a very concise method of studying dashas ( THAT

POSTING HELPED ME A GREAT DEAL ) per email datedMarch 12,2002 with subject

"HEPL FOR BEGINNER" AND WAS ADDRESSED TO A LIST MEMBER BY NAME ash. iN THIS

MAIL THERE WAS NO MENTION OF ANY SORT OF "transit chart" SO I WAS WONDERING

AS TO WHAT IS THE USE OF A TRANSIT CHART.

PLS HELP WITH GUIDANCE ON THIS SUBJECT.

HARE KRISHNA,

RAJUL KAUSHIK

A very interesting question which requires some time to answer. Lets see if

i am clear in this answer.

Here we have 3 different elements to focus on a single answer, which is the

prediction factor.

1) Lagna Chart

First, the Lagna chart is the vedic horoscope itself. Each horoscope has

like a "head" from where we can see from "head to feet" of a person.

The head is the rising sign, or the sign of the zodiac rising at the eastern

horizon of the place of birth.

Inside the horoscope we have the position of the planets. That position

does not move, it is permanent.

As a vedic astrologer i use mainly the transits and the main periods of the

planets to give a reading.

The transit is the motion of the planets in the sky, moving constantly

across the signs.

For the study of the transit we take as a priority the Moon lagna, or the

sign in which the moon is situated. But as a secondary factor i do as well

take the lagna (rising sign) chart.

If the rising sign is the 1st house, the chandra lagna is the moon sign

considered as the 1st moon house.

Therefore we can say that for example, from April 15 to May 15, the Sun will

transit every year the sign of Aries. Aries may be the 2nd house from the

lagna chart if your lagna is Pisces, because from Pisces to Aries we count;

Pisces = 1st house and Aries (the next sign) is the 2nd sign. But if your

Moon sign is Taurus, then Aries will be the 12th sign or 12th house from

Taurus.

In this way the transit of the Sun in Aries will affect the 2nd house from

the lagna chart and the 12th house from the moon chart.

However, the sun is the only planet that can be easily be calculated across

the signs every year. The other planets require to be seen with the help of

a calendar, ephemeris or computer, to see at their position.

In this way we can see in which houses from the lagna chart and the moon

chart, all the planets are in transit.

In a similar way as the transit of the planets are affecting the house, they

can affect as well the natal planets.

By natal planets we mean, those planets indicated in a vedic natal

horoscope.

2) Transit Chart

This chart is the chart calculated for any date in time, and in which we see

the position of the planets in transit, in reference to the natal houses

(lagna and Moon charts), and the natal planets.

3) Vimshottari Dashas

This is the main period of the planets calculated for any individual natal

horoscope, from the exact position of the natal Moon.

The 9 planets rule our life for different years in time giving a total of

120 years in calculations. By this we do not mean that we are likely to

live for 120 years, it means that the planets are giving like a map of our

life.

Many years ago i did calculate the charts for a couple of friends, and i did

draw the periods of the planets for more than 100 years.

Unfortunately, one day, the couple became involved in a car accident and

both ended in a hospital. The doctors told the girl (1980) that the boy was

going to die of his injuries, and the girl said to them "That is not truth,

because our astrologer friend gave us more than 100 years to live".

To date the 3 of us don't know if her wishful thinking save his life, but

he eventually recover.

Each main period is divided into 9 sub-periods, giving one to each of the 9

planets, and then again, each sub-period (called bukti) is divided into 9

sub-sub-periods (call antaras). We could go further into other

subdivisions like sukmas and pranas, but for practical studies, upto the

antaras is sufficient.

In this way we can see for example that you got married during the VeJuSa,

or during the main period of Venus, Jupiter bukti and Saturn antara.

It is like saying that you got married at 10:13:53 am, or 10 hours, 13

minutes and 53 seconds. Which time is usually taken as when the last of the

partners say "I do" or when the last signature is given in the register.

me

Both the transit chart and vimsottari calculations, do not change the natal

chart.

If you are born in point A, you have a lagna chart, moon chart and

vimsottari calculations, and even if you are in point B or C, point A is

always the point of reference.

Regarding the birthday charts, we have another matter. I say that birthday

charts can be calculated from the birth place or from place of residence.

A birthday chart is calculated every year on your solar birthday, when the

Sun reaches the same position as at birthtime.

We can calculate a birthday chart based at the birth place, or we can

calculate a birthday chart based on the place of residence.

I say that the natal birthday chart gives the trends "given at home", and

the birthday chart from the place of residence gives the new trends. Both

charts should be analysed to form a reading, but the birthday chart from

home is enough.

Just like in palmistry, for boys, the left hand indicates the karma given at

birth, and the right hand palm indicates the present karmic trends. For

girls, the reading is different.

In that way, the birthday chart from home gives the trends from birth and

the birthday chart from the place of residence gives the trends that we are

making.

Once you get the experience of reading charts, your intuition will let you

know what to read, or what to read first. Sometimes you read only lagna

chart, sometimes you will read all the factors. It depends in age, time,

person and circumstances. Let your intuition tell you.

Your intuition can take you to use your intuition.

One day, (March Purnima of 2000), i was invited to give some readings at a

psychic festival. My friends came for me and my computer and we drove

about 30 miles from home.

We arrived at the hotel in Washington town at about 8am, or about 1 hour

before opening time. I try to install the computer on a table, to get ready

for the readings, and i realise that somehow i did forget the cable to

connect the power supply. No way that i was going to ask my friends to give

me a round lift of 60 miles to get the missing cable. Therefore i just

resigned to my fate.

At about 10 am i did go inside the hotel, having had a nice walk and chat in

the gardens and i was confronted with a girl standing at my table. She

requested for a reading and i said to her that i could not do it because my

computer was off. She therefore said, "can you read the Tarot cards for

me". I said "Sure", because i had my "friends" with me.

>From 10 am to 6 pm, i read the tarot cards non-stop (except for one stop to

visit the toilet), to 20 people.

The last reading was done to one of my neighbours, which was selling

"poems". After the reading he ask me "how much do i owed you". And i did

say " Normally i accept a donation, but how many poems have you sold". He

said "None". So, i said, please do not give me anything.

Intuition is your best friend, learn to cultivate your intuition.

Thank you very much for your feedback. A transit chart is very useful but

if i did not mention it at the time, it was to avoid confusion in the

learning.

Everybody has been to a dentist. Therefore, everybody knows what it is to

have either a bad tooth or a sensitive tooth.

When we try to chew with a bad tooth, we get a pain. And when we put a

piece of ice on a sensitive tooth, we get a pain as well.

The transit of the planets is similar, when they cross above some "bad" or

"sensitive" planets or houses, we get pain, or pleasure if those houses or

planets mean good to us.

Talking about dentists, i have a good joke.

A guy goes to the dentist and ask, "how much does it cost to extract a

tooth?". The dentist said "$20", and "how long it takes for you to extract

the tooth?!" asked the guy. The dentist said "about 15 minutes".

The guy then say "What, are you charging $20 for a 15 minutes job?. The

dentist say " Oh well, if you want, i can take longer".

Best wishes

Natabara Das
