Guest guest
OM GURAVE NAMAH The following are extracts from the teaching of Sanjay Rath at SJVC (AT) (DOT) COM in relation to ATMAKARAKA (AK). It should help to answer some of your questions about role of AK and give awareness of the depths of knowledge that are available from this great Guru. The Atmakaraka is the planet who achieves the highest degrees in the chart. For Rahu this is calculated in reverse. e.g. SU at 3degrees Aries, JU at 25 degrees Aqua and RA at 3 degrees Scorpio, then AK = RA alternatively if Rahu were at 27degrees then Jupiter becomes AK. Hope this helps, with best wishes, Pearl Finn OM TAT SAT -- AK is the soul significator and shows inner drive and aspirations. The Atmakaraka sign in the Navamsa is a clue to the desire of the Atma or soul and this position is called the KARAKAMSA. Its Nature gives clue to spiritual development. The planets role as AK: SUN must learn to overcome EGO and become HUMBLE MOON should be very caring and compassionate MARS should refrain from all forms of violence and stick to path of non-violence or Ahimsa MERCURY should control his speech and be truthful at all times JUPITER should always respect Guru. Husband and care for children VENUS must have a very clean character and refrain from illegitimate sex/lust SATURN cannot give sorrow to others and will have to share the sorrow of many others. RAHU maybe cheated often and will still have to be free from guile and clean-hearted LAGAMASA (body) that which is easily achieved/ readily available KARAKAMSA (soul) represents the desire of the soul if these are conjoined = self actualisation KK and NL conjoined aspected by benefics or its trines/quadrants = RAJYOGA gives prosperity/knowledge. Mixed planets give mixed results. Unless fortified in Quadrant/Trine adverse results accrue, 6/8 = life is a bed of thorns If AK conjunct Navamsa lagna lord, will give rise in life. SWAMSA can mean either KK or Navamsa Lagna 2 planets in it make person a leader in his community Suffering is destined from the AK and this is inbuilt into the cleansing system in this life. IT CANNOT GO AWAY. The Atmakaraka is the king of the horoscope and rules it like a king does. If it is a bad king then there is Punishment and tribulations, if the king is calm, then there is peace. the mood etc of the king is also important. Among the Moksha trikona, the 12th is the controlling Bhava. The eighth from AK is seen for the going away of the soul in the hands of Maheswara and the fourth has other connections like the guiding Shakti as this is the Tureeya Gayatri. ISTA DEVATA is the deity who will bring us back to ATMA and is represented as the strongest planet in 12th from AK. If there is no planet in 12th from AK then the lord of that sign will take the role. Planets aspecting the 12th from AK will act as guides on the journey. Ista devata planet shall indicate the relation/person who shall lead the native to the Ista Devata. Ista devata holds the key to a chart and it is important to have excellent relations with such people who are indicated by the Ista devata planet. The AK in essence governs the path of the Atma, whose ultimate destination is Moksha (freedom from the repetitions of birth and death). There is in fact, no other purpose for the soul having achieved birth in a human body, than to realize the Truth of the Jivatma (individual soul), and that of the Paramatma (the Supersoul, or indwelling feature of God with the hearts of all beings), and the difference between these are the temporal energy, Tatastha shakti (maya). The Vedanta makes this clear in the form of condensed codes, or sutras, such as "Atato brahma jijnasa" (now [in the human form] it is time to realize Spirit), or "Sarvam etat Brahman eti" (Brahman, or God, is everything). Now, astrologically the Chara karaka (temporary significator) that guides the soul to this ultimate realization, is the Atmakaraka. That which holds the soul back in his progress, due to his indulgence in the senses and the physical reality, is Maya, or illusion. The Atmkarakas thus clears away karmas enacted on the physical plane, and that is why one suffers (materially speaking) during dasas of the Atmakaraka. Now, Rahu is the center of most stigmatic karmas, and thus if Rahu becomes the AK, it is understood that the soul has come a long way in purifying and cleansing the results of prior karmas. Cases in point: I have seen many charts of highly advanced spiritual leaders, whose Atmakaraka was Rahu. Most of notable of this, is the chart of Sri Srimad A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, the founder/acharya of the Hare Krsna movement. There are many others as well. So, if we attribute Rahu to the repository of unreconciled karmas, it is clear that there is little left to be purified if he becomes the Atmakaraka. Ravi or the Sun as the Atmakaraka is not the cause of grief. The Atma is above these emotions. Grief comes to the Mana (Mind) on perceiving things as being beneficial (happiness) or adverse (sorrow/grief) to oneself or others. Thus the Mana is the place where we live consciously and Saturn, the great enemy of the Moon is the Cause of Grief as Jupiter its great friend is the cause of happiness. In a way, both these also deviate from the path of the pure self consciousness as excess of happiness or sorrow are both bad. Moderation is always good. Strong Moon as AK gave popularity and Gaja-Kesari yoga involving AK made it permanent (lasting after death). Remember that death occurs when the ATMA is no longer willing to stay in the body....and not vice versa.. Atmakarak well placed from AL gives good progress in life. The king would enjoy being in kendra from AL. The Atma as natural benefic in 3/6th houses from AL (arudha lagna) avoiding debilitation in rashi/navamsa guarantees spiritual/saintly direction in life. WhenAtma is at the same time in A7, spiritual associations should be looked for, and utmost care should be taken as far as sexual life and business/partnership is concerned.
