Guest guest
Dear Robyn Many thanks for you email. you <<you started with astrology by researching in the area of astronomy first.>> me That was the nearest alternative i had to my search. At one point in the past, astronomy and astrology were one single science but those in power divided them to eliminate the potential of astrology. One of their rules to control things has been to divide to rule. If we study at the roots of the educative system we can see how they always gather the knowledge that the masses are allowed to learn. Because in the beginning (one beginning) astrology was a danger to their position, astrology was denigrated, minimized in value, or put on the level of witch-craft or supertition. Astronomy was allowed to flourish because it did not threat at their position and because people had to have a sense of freedom. Later on, astrology was even allowed in universities but not for long. At present, astrology is the ugly sister of astronomy. Perhaps this present attitude is due to the materialistic heart of those in power. However, this attitude is spread over many materialistic people. A friend of mine very materialistic, once asked me, "if you are a good astrologer why you do not even have a car?". With that attitude they measure success with wealth. They think that unless you have a rolex on, you are not good enough for them. They cannot understand that poverty can be due to karma. They cannot grasp that the real wealth is the inner self. At one point in time, i wanted to demostrate astrological rules working ok, by demostrating a data base showing a high index of probabilities. Materialistic people love facts, figures and high probabilities. But i changed my mind when a friend of mine, vedic astrologer, told me "the insurance companies are going to get hold of this information first". My friend is right, materialistic people want to get hold of anything that is easy, demostrable and that can make money to them. Astrology by being a divine science cannot be manipulated by materialistic people. Materialistic people may have a material brain but they do not have intuition. And by lacking intuition, they cannot understand love and affection. They may understand knowledge and power but never love, real love. you <<Because I took Latin at school and not Geography (we had to choose between the two),>> me In my country we have a different system of education but nevertheless materialistic. After high school we go to either preuniversity for 3 years or to magisterial (teaching) education for 4 years. While in pre-university we had to learn Latin, Greek, geography, French etc. One single subject matter with less than 59% pass, was enough to repeat the whole course. Of course we were giving two opportunities (exams) to pass the failed matter but after that, there was the only alternative of repetition. Only at university level, a failed matter could be taken as the same time as the current level matters. you <<and, as a woman was not allowed to study physics or chemistry,>> me In my country as well, a similar male prominence was encouraged but in later years more and more women took over male studies. I remember that in 1965, only two women were studying engeenery at the county's university. The other 300 students were males. you <<I feel a definite lack in this area and need to brush up on any astronomy I can.>> me Astronomical knowledge is helpful but not a must. you <<When I first downloaded Alexander Zavalishin's planetary software the other day, I had to email him and ask him where earth was. All the way from Russia, Alexander very gently explained to this dumb woman that it was below me!! IE I was standing on it!! Oh dear....>> me Many times, a great intelligent man may master a subject matter. But one thing is to master that knowledge and another thing is to learn how to make that knowledge as simple to understand as possible. I am sure that both of you learned from the experience. you <<I was particularly interested in the interpretation you gave of the signs. In none of my reading so far have I come across anything like that.>> me Every astrologer has a different approach and the first books to show-learn the ABC to astrology have to be limited to what first comers are supposed to learn. you <<It really made a lot of sense and very deep. I particularly liked this following passage of yours: We are here in this material universe because somehow we have achieved a horoscope. According to our destiny we are supposed to follow certain guidelines. The planets or God never chastise us, it is us that we sometimes want to run in a channel which is not destined to us and therefore, the planets just "correct" us, to make us go to our destined channel. This is exactly how I see my life has run (we are roughly the same age by the way so there is quite a lot of experience under the bridge!). Me Many astrologers may come to the same conclusion but there are some that are allowed or given the "how to say it". you <<I see the planets, even the malefics, as my friends, who guide me, caress me, teach me, help to get back onto the right path when I am seduced off it, or fall off it, and mainly to guide me to a deeper and deeper understanding of why I am here. >> Yes. my spiritual master said that from the absolute plane, we can see that even our enemies are helping us to reach our final destination, our real home, back to Godhead. you quoted and said <<Srila Prabhupada published a nice book which can give you a better idea. It is called "Raja Vidya, The King of knowledge". Through my new cyber friends on the GJ list and others, I have been guided to certain readings, and, the other night the first book I downloaded of Srila Prabhupada was "Raja Vidya, The King of Knowledge". Strange that this is the one book you emphasize particularly here. It is almost as if Jyotish is not only opening the channels in my mind to astrology, but also guiding me in ways that perhaps it is now time for me to travel. This is why I say that I view the planets (even my dear old retrograde Saturn and Rahu in my 8th house) as my friends. It may get very rough materially sometimes, but spiritually it just gets better and better.>> me Yes, we have guides all over, and by reading vedic literature, we help to expand our mind and to understand vedic astrology better and ourselves much more and much better. you <<I also found your simple explanation of duality very good. I always try to keep in my mind this phrase from that great Catholic theologian, "We are not human beings having a spiritual experience, but spiritual beings having a human experience." This neatly sums up the duality of existence for me. >> me Thank you. you <<Thank you for the interesting posts on the lists. Although the interpretation of charts is paramount for a beginner, it really broadens one's study to have posts that also explain the philosophy, the background, the scriptures, other people's experiences of Jyotish, when one is working alone and in a country that is pretty barren of Jyotish as far as I can ascertain (South Africa).>> me Everything has a reason, we are only allowed to see a part of the jigsaw and in time the whole picture appears in front to our eyes. I was told once by a teacher "You were told already more than enough, to tell you more would mean to interfere with karma". We have to learn to do our allotted homework, before we demand for more information Best wishes Natabara Das Om Namo Bhagavate Vasudevaya; Hare Krishna; Om Tat SatTo , send an email to: gjlist-http://www.goravani.comYour use of is subject to the
Guest guest
Dear Natabara, I noted your comments about languages you have studied....just curious what do you think is the link, if any, between language study and also stuyding jyotish. I studied some of 20 languages...albeit Sanskrit is still my love. Hopefully I will have the blessing to go study Sanskrit full time...apparently there is a lovely man in Montreal who has his PhD in Sanskrit from the Sorbonne...I will pray all the more for this opportunity. Also I sang Opera and classical music (thus some of the languages were essential) and wondered if you also had a music interest - I hear music when I look at the grahas and constellations and even as a child sang to them every night without fail. I applaud the comment below that you made in a previous post: Astrology by being a divine science cannot be manipulated by materialistic people. Materialistic people may have a material brain but they do not have intuition. And by lacking intuition, they cannot understand love and affection. They may understand knowledge and power but never love, real love. And in that comment you just made I believe that the judging of others on jyotish lists is directly proportionate to the volume of intuition pulsing through the astrolger. Also you made a comment that even our enemies can help us find our destiny...again divine sweet knowledge as I sincerely believe that every sweet step along the path is critical to our fulfillment, our enlightenment. It is my sweet desire that jyotish look for the path, not the judgement of the grahas focusing so intently on the negative or positive aspect, and know there is always light on that path.
