Acording to nature or competition, sometimes we are forced to show that position. It is in their nature. We are in Kali yuga and salesmen people do not have any vedic guideline. In a vedic society which was more prominent in previous ages, the King was a servant of the citizens. The king was allowed to live from a 25% tax and manage society in harmony. Managers, leaders or kings used to get advice from brahmans, the priestly or intellectual class. Vaisyas were those from the agricultor, traders or business class. And the rest of the population used to serve the others. The king was not allowed to expend in lavish parties until the last of his citizens was well fed, dressed and sheltered. Brahmans were supposed to live from charity or donations. The king used to maintain or support musicians and astrologers, in order to have a better service from them. Astrologers were supposed to live from the generosity of the king or from the charity or donations coming from people. In our days, in Kali Yuga, people in general do not know how to give in charity or how to donate. Everything has a price. In this way, the astrologer is forced to think like a businessperson in order to survive. Any business person has to think in the competition and in the mentality of the customer. However, the duty of the classes has to be calculated by the skills and not by birth. When there are some astrologers charging so and so, we many times have to charge either the same or more to show our quality, experience or expertise. We are forced by the present system to compete and say that we are the best. I am lucky in a way that for the past 10 years i was somehow forced by destiny to live from donations. And i tell you, it can be hard mainly in the beginning. People in general do not know how to give donations, many still tell me "make things easy for me, put a price to your services". FGortunately, my customers have been generous enough for me to make a living and in time i have learned to depend on the mercy of the Lord. This last bit is the hardest thing to achieve. It is like asking a man used to walk on crutches, to walk without them, or to ask a child just learning how to walk, to depend on the safety of the parents care. One think is to believe that the Lord provides with everything needed and other thing is to see it or to practice it. you <<I myself have predicted some events for next week- if I'm right good and well, but if I'm wrong which is more likely- then so what.>> me Believe me, when you are an astrologer with the responsability to others, your attitude changes and you make sure that you are right most of the time. A careless attitude may be seen in an amateur but not in a professional. you <<Back to the drawing board wiser for the future. The difference between us and the above person is we don't charge U.S $300 for a reading>> me May i ask how much do you charge? Is your country cheap enough to survive? Do you have any competition? Are you good enough to help others? Do you have enough customers to make a living? Thanks to Krishna I live from charity and donations. And i have to say that i am good because if after 32 years of astrological experience i am not, then it is time for me to change my profession. However, i do not criticise those that are charging for their services, i understand their position, and at the moment i am not offering my services because i am recovering from a long term illness.Best wishes Natabara Das
Guest guest
Dear Natabara, nice post, glad to hear that you work on a donation basis. I worked on a donatation basis for my first five years and always made a living somehow. THen I went into a six month period when people were literally taking advantage of me, asking questions about all thier known relatives, etc, really difficult stuff and then paying me $20 and that was with some health remedies that I sent them. So I racked up my credit cards until they were full to get through with a my indian wife without a greencard and my infant. Then I realized that a person can charge or take donations due to either healthy or unhealty reasons, and that we have to stay fleixible cause we never know what we need to learn.
