Guest guest
Dear List Some people are already making business on the potential of dristhi. The Sport Vision Clinic has its own web page at visioninsport.co.uk Dr Alan Smith of that Clinic say that sight is the ability to see but beyond that is vision which is what the brain does with what we see. At the clinic they measure the dynamic vision or the ability to refocus the eyes quickly and the clarity of eyesight. >From the Sunday Times' magazine called Style for Nov 4, 2001, I quote what they report about that clinic: "Reaction time and eye to hand or foot co-ordination, vital in all sports involving throwing or catching, are assessed by timing how long takes someone to hit buttons with the hands or feet everytime a symbol appears on a large screen. And glare recovery tests in which lights of varying brightens are shone into the eyes, measure the ability to focus in extreme light conditions." The web site describes: "Reaction and Proaction: The most common concern of all athletes is reaction and proaction Reaction refers to movements that occur in response to another action e.g. catching and Returning a Tennis Ball, Saving a Shot in Football. Proaction refers to an action that is controlled by an individual e.g. Throwing Kicking. Visual Concentration: Visual concentration is the ability to pay active attention to visual stimuli. The exercises increase the ability to maintain concentration accurately. e.g. Racing Driver, Tracking and Pursuit. The exercises are designed to enhance the athletes ability to smoothly follow a moving target e.g. Fielding a Ball, Controlling a Moving Football. Peripheral Awareness and Acuity: The goal of these exercises is to enhance the ability and to gain knowledge of one's surroundings outside the direct line of sight. By being trained to use the entire field of vision, the athlete will enhance their reaction times and overall performance e.g. Footballer Delivering Long Pass Without Having to Look Up. In the conclusion a great deal has been done over the past decade to radically improve fitness, strength and speed but with little regard for the persons ability to react in the first place. The eyes function to steer our bodies by providing information about spatial relationships, speed and direction. Increasing this ability allows one to react faster and more efficiently to outside stimuli. " The clinic started business in 1997. Therefore, this is a new concept but not doubt that they are likely to find more about the role of vision. To give you a hint about the importance of dristhi I am going to tell you a nice story. Once up on it time, Ravana a great demon, overpowered almost all the demigods. Ravana was so a great demon in control of this planet that had all the planetary rulers at his feet. One day, Narada Muni, a great devotee of Krishna went to visit Ravana and he had to walk on top of the backs of those rulers to reach Ravana's throne. When Narada Muni stand up on top of Sani's back, (Sani is one of the names for the demigod in charge in the planet Saturn), Sani whispered at him to tell Ravana that Sani is a menial demigod and that therefore, he was actually enjoying that humilliant position. Sani said that if Ravana really wanted Sani to be humiliated and suffer, the worst position for Sani was to be upside up, because Sani did not like anybody to stand up on his chest. Narada Muni by being a very exalted soul understood Sani's intentions and told Ravana about Sani's position. Ravana could not stand anybody enjoying in his kingdom but himself. So, Ravana immediately ordered his servants to change Sani's position in a way that everybody going to visit Ravana would have to walk on Sani's chest. The great demon did not know that in that position, Sani could throw a dristhi at Ravana and because of Sani's dristhi, Ravana was going to fall down. Eventually, Lord Rama went to Sri Lanka, the residence of Ravana, to rescue His wife Sita devi, and in the process defeated and killed Ravana. Therefore, astrologers know from that day that whatever Sani throws a dristhi is destined to fall.
