Guest guest
Dear List We have a circle of 360° divided by the 12 signs of the zodiac. Every sign is 30° in length and is ruled by a planet. If we draw the zodiac in this way, we can draw another concentric circle to draw the 27 naksatras or constellations. Each naksatra having 13°20 in length. Then we can draw another concentric circle and divide it into 108 navamsas each one ruled by a sign of the zodiac. In this way we can see that we get like 9 mini zodiacs repeating themselves. 9 X 12 (signs) = 108 navamsas. Every naksatra has 4 navamsas and every Naksatra is ruled by a planet. There are 108 navamsas in 27 naksatras. The order of the ruling planets for the naksatras is always the same, starting with naksatra 1 ruled by Ketu we see the next naksatra ruled by Venus, then Sun, Moon, Mars, Rahu, Jupiter, Saturn, and we end in the 9th naksatra ruled by Mercury. Then we see that after naksatra 9 we see naksatra 10 ruled by Ketu again and the first navamsa for this naksatra is as well Aries. With this circle we can visualise that naksatra 1, 10 and 19 are ruled by Ketu and the 3 start as well with Aries navamsa. So we get a trinity of naksatras in this circle. Vedic astrologers know that every dasa or main period of planet is sub-divided into 9 buktis or sub-periods of planets giving a bukti to 9 planets. It came to me that if every naksatra is ruled by a planet and that if every planet rules for a certain constant number of years, then the vimsottari method of calculating the planetary periods ruling people's life is like a progression of the moon across the nakstras. So, if you natal moon is in Asvini or naksatra 1, we can say that you were born under the main period of Ketu. After you have finished the main Ketu period, you will be under the main period of the Venus for 20 years. This means that the moon is "progressing" from the naksatra ruled by Ketu across the next naksatra ruled by Venus and so on. If Ketu rules for 7 years, each navamsa rules for 21 months. 21 X 4 = 84 months or 7 years. (Forget here the 365.25 days). Below there is a table giving the amount of months ruled by each one of the 4 navamsas in every naksatra. Ketu 21 42 63 84 Venus 60 120 180 240 Sun 18 36 54 72 Moon 30 60 90 120 Mars 21 42 63 84 Rahu 54 108 162 216 Jupiter 48 96 144 192 Saturn 57 114 171 228 Mercury 51 102 153 204 For dasas or main periods, we look at the ownership of the houses in the chart of the respective planet ruling your main period but we can see also at the ownership of the naksatras in regard to their distance from the natal moon. For buktis or sub-periods, we look at the location of the houses in the chart but we can see also at the location of the planets in naksatras in regard to their distance from the natal moon. For antaras or inter-periods, we look at both the ownership of the houses of the planets and to the location of the planets in the naksatras in regard to their distance from the natal moon. The naksatras that are in trine to your natal naksatra can be good or bad but we call it janma, the 2nd naksatra in distance is called sampat and it is positive. Then we have the worst naksatra called vipat and indicates dangers. Then follows in distance from the natal moon, 4 = kshema or prosperity, 5 = pratyak or obstacles, 6 = sadhana or realisation, 7 = naidhana or inauspicious, 8 = mitra or friend, and 9 = parama mitra or very good friend. If we put a different color (to visualise better) to the naksatras we can see that there are 3 naksatras ruled by the same planet. In this way those born with the moon in naksatras 1,10 or 19 have Ketu ruling their Moon or we say that they are born under the Ketu dasa. They will have naksatras 2, 11 and 20 as sampat, the next triangle of naksatras would be 3,12 and 21 which are ruled by the sun and are vipat. Because the sun is ruling the 3rd naksatra called vipat, during the 3rd dasa, the individual will have the trends to have an inauspicious time. During the buktis of planets located in bad naksatras in regard to the distance to the natal moon, those buktis will have an inauspicious tendency. For antaras see both, ownership and location and see the distance from the moon to see if positive or negative. If the moon is "progressed", the moon will cross naksatras but it will cross as well above the natal positions of planets like in "hits". Remember to include as well the "hits" for the planets that are in triangle or in the naksatra ruled by the same planet. With this in mind i built up an small programme in XL to input the date of the beginning of a dasa and the minutes travelled by a planet in a naksatra ruled by that dasa. The XL programme will give me the date when that planet is "hit" by the moon in progress and the dates for the end of each one of the 4 navamsas. The "hits" may not necessarily indicate the date of the event but a gap in time to get prepared for that. In this way, we "balance" the reading for planets being the owners of good or bad naksatras from their distance to the moon, good or bad houses from the lagna and good or bad houses from the Moon lagna. If we see 3 bad ownerships, or locations, we are likely to see a rough time. 2 bad elaments is better, but even better will be only 1 element. And still better, not bad elements at all. And do not forget as well the karakahood, badhakastana etc of the planet under study. I have tried to be as clear as possible but many times is very difficult to explain an equation to a vast group of students. Please let me know if there is any questions or clarification.
