Dear List

I am here posting my own experience.

About the Spring time of 1980, i came across a new friend (i do not mention his

name because he does not want to), he was a western astrologer and had about 60

charts in his collection.

As soon as i told him about vedic astrology he started to change his collection

into the vedic system.

This friend became my first student of vedic astrology. Every Tuesday i used to

travel by bus (30') and walk (20') to Newcastle to do my vegetarian shopping and

to teach a new lesson to him.

After some months of lessons, somehow we were separated by circumstances and i

did not see him for about a year.

One day in the summer of 1982, i met him again by chance while walking in a

Newcastle street. He invited me to his place to show me the new programes that

he had developed on a Vic 20 computer and was graduating the programes into a

Commodore 64.

I sat in front of the screen and i saw on it the graphics for that present

horoscope calculated at Newcastle.

The screen showed the northern Indian style of a vedic chart.

With that programe we could see 1. the rasi & navamsa on left & right of the

screen. 2. the PLANETARY position (degrees, minutes, abreviations for the signs

in rasi, navamsa, and the number of naksatra. below the graphics.

By 1990, another computer wizard further developed the idea and by pressing F3

we could see rasi & periods (it has the facility to click and divide dasas into

buktis, antaras, sukmas & pranas (but i only use up to antaras in general & up

to sukmas sometimes) on left or right of the screen. (By pressing F6, it

changes from right to left and viceverse).

It has the facility to click and divide dasas into buktis, antaras, sukmas &

pranas (but i only use up to antaras in general & up to sukmas sometimes) on

left or right of the screen. (By pressing F6, it changes from right to left

and viceverse).

We could see rasi & rasi on left & right of the screen, when analysing two

charts together. (This facility broke down when the data bank broke down and we

could not recover chart from it)

We could see navamsa & navamsa on left & right of the screen, when analysing two charts.

By pressing F2, the names of people in a selected folder used to appear on the

right side of the screen & by using the cursor i could select one, or i press

the first letter of the chart that i am looking for & it takes me to the

beginning of the charts that have that letter in common.

When i had the rasi & navamsa on the screen, i used to press page up or page

down & the screen used to show different horoscopes. In this way, i found that

the rasi & navamsa are like the finger prints of the thumbs or the right & left

eyes. In the case of twins, we may see a different navamsa or even trimsamsa, &

by paging up & down, we see the difference between rasis, navamsas or

trimsamsas. This can be seen better by using the north Indian style. It is

quite an experience to browse in this way only to stop when the eye catches

something unusual (like the last Czarine of russia with many planets in lagna).

At the bottom of the screen, i can see the commands for graphics (rasi & navamsa

or rasi and the other shodasavargas, which we can select), naksatra (given the

names of the constelations for the position of the planets) [this is good for

beginners that do not memorize the names], lords (ie. Sun lord of 2 in 3),

Aspects (Mars aspects so & so) [again, for beginners], muhurtha, today (the

chart for the moment), yogas (any yogas & their names), periods (this function

shows the dates for the beginning & end of each one of the 9 periods. By

clicking on any dasa, the sreen changes and it shows the buktis. We can click

up to sukmas), data (gives the date of birth etc), Synestry (this facility

allows to compare 2 charts on the screen by calling their rasi, navamsa or

else), Delin (it gives on the screen the position of the planets in rasi &

constellations, & by clicking the one we want ie, Sun in Aries, we see the

delineation), Dbase (it take us to another set of commands.

Search, is like F2, create (allows to input data of birth to calculate), edit

(edits the data of birth), Account (used to show different folders, friends,

devotees, historical personalities etc but this facility is broken now and i

can not get hold of the programmer), Calendar (produces a selected monthly

calendar giving the ending time for the tithi, tara & chandra bala, and nitya

yoga). There is another function that takes me to the facility to change the

position of the planets from sidereal into tropical & viceverse.

The facility that this other friend did not finish was to call biographies on

either side of the screen to study with any function shown on the other side of

the screen. My idea (i have about 20 biographies in that way) is simple ie.

00-00-1870 Srila Prabhupada's father is born.

02-09-1896 Srila Prabhupada is born.

00-00-1965 Srila Prabhupada arrived in America

00-08-1966 Srila Prabhupada starts ISKCON

30-07-1976 Srila Prabhupada arrives to the Chateu in france.

Notice that when i do not have the exact date i put 0's. If that input appears

on the right side of my screen, i can find out the dasa (when i only have the

year), the bukti (when i only have the month & year), & up to sukma (when i

have the full date).

And i write besides, for example, VeKeSa to tell me that the date shows the

Venus main period, Ketu bukti and the Saturn antara.

Eventually, astrologers using this facility will swop biographies to incorporate

in their personal programes & their research will be more accurate &

professional.

I was impressed on those early years (the early 80's)but what really impressed

me was the fact that the first programe has the real time facility.

With real time, the screen "walks" the chart in "real" time. That means that

every second (in those days it was about once every 60 seconds because earlier

computers were slow) the screen shows the rasi, navamsa and new planetary

positions.

With the facility of real time, we can see on the screen how our conversation

changes, with the changes in the navamsa chart. (For example, a different

navamsa rising) or if we have a life news programe on a nearby TV, we can

relate the news to the charts on the screen. So, you can leave the horoscope

"walking" on the screen, go to take a bath, and come back after the bath and

find that the rasi and navamsa charts have changed since.

In the past a had a friend that used to ask me every year for the world trends

ahead. I used to put the real time facility to show me the charts for every 24

hours, in a second of time sequence. In this way, the 30 days of a month would

be covered in 30 seconds of time.

I used to stop the programe at a certain interesting planetary pattern (with the

PAUSE facility), and print the screen.

In this way i used to have a print out of the most relevant horoscope patterns

to study and to predict.

By doing this, it gave me the idea to study the navamsa charts as well.

I had heard that some vedic astrologers give predictions from only the navamsa

chart. By looking at the transits of the navamsas, we can see how the planets

in navamsas can "hit" natal navamsas and predict events.

Best wishes

Natabara Das
