Guest guest
Dear Carol you wrote <<I wonder if the devas or demi-gods are similar or the same as the Western world's word for "angels watching over us"? I think I read that certain devas are specifically assigned to a person by the characteristics of his/her horoscope....>> me They are the same, there is a book that describes how different cultures share the same cosmic view under different names according to their awareness, culture, development, language etc. The human body is a gift given to us by mother nature. After many experiences in different bodies across 8 million species of life, the soul is granted a human body out of the 400,000 species of human life. Threfore, the human body is precious. So precious that even the devas wish to achieve a human body because from the level of a human body we have more opportunities to go back home, back to Godhead. And because of the high value of a human body, every single soul achieving a human body is supervised by high living being. We may not see them but they are always helping us, encouraging us, guiding us. We may chose to love the material energy more than to love the spiritual energy, but our freedom is given out of love. The more we are attracted to the material energy, the more we are going to develop nasty propensities like anger, envy, lust etc. In this way we can swim in tamas, rajas or satva but all of them are a part of the material modes of nature. Even in Satva or the mode of goodness, we may become philantropic, charitable, fight for good causes or becoming good persons, but our solutions cannot give liberation to others, because from the satvic energy we are still bound within this material energy. Therefore, we should try to get out of this gunas with the help of beings outside the material energy.up. Would this be the same?A friend of mine, a vedic astrologer told me once that we are protected by invisible beings. We may forgive an offense made to us, but the question is, if those protectors will forgive? you <<or maybe the person is specifically attuned to that deva (?)>> me We are attuned to a particular deva because we have a sambhanda, a relationship to them. you <<Mother Durga sounds like the term "Mother Nature" that I heard about while growing up. Would this be the same?>> me Yes. According to our culture we have different names for them. Do you remember "you will know them by their fruits, their activities"?
