This is a widely held belief that has been irrevocably proven with the birth of my own Son who had crowned but, due to complications, couldn't be delivered for another 2hrs (aprox). Best Wishes, Wendy Dear Wendy, Interesting. Thank you for that, that the actual birth time is not when the head appears but when the baby is separated from the mother. Is that right?regardsArthur Dear Arthur, It would appear to be so :-) Having never worked in a delivery room I cannot tell you the correct procedure but, as far as I know, the umbilical cord is cut straight away (used to be anyway) before the infant has the mucus sucked from it's airways etc. The infant cannot be attended to in this way while it's still connected to the placenta which can take some time to be delivered. If, as you say, you know someone who works in the delivery room of a big hospital, it would be good to ask them, as their knowledge would be more up-to-date than mine in this regard.
