Guest guest
Zamani, You're sounding a bit heavy handed here -- more like a friend of yours. :-) I think your message cut out before you made the final point about Kala Sarpa Yoga, but I just wanted to address the issue of the 20th century and psychology. As you know I'm no fan of psychology as a discipine in its own right, nor in its application to astrology. To my mind, this 20th centruy invention is more about a modern solution to an oldproblem than anything new. Psychology represents a secular attempt to solve life's mysteries that haunt us in the truthful solitude of the wee small hours. In previous societies, these questions were largely the domain of the church. As enforced piety fell away with the onset of the Enlightenment and the spread of education, these fundamental human concerns persisted but perhaps took new forms. Psychology was the "answer" to the same old problems. So I don't think it's qualititatively new, just a more user-friendly package for the modern world. Of course, psychology doesn't really answer anything, since it is nothing more than an agglomeration of arbitrary ideas and concepts that have not, and cannot, be proven in the scientific sense. That's not to say it isn't useful to us or that some people can't be helped by it. But that is also the case by people reciting 10 Hail Marys at the behest of their priest as penance. It's a great topic to chew on for a while nonetheless. Guest guest
Zamani, Coming in mid-way is not a good idea (I seem to be missing some messages on my account. However, I am very interested in your view that VA should move into the 21st century. Is there somewhere on the web that you expand on this idea? Thanks Robyn - "Christopher Kevill" <ckevill <gjlist>; <gjlist> Monday, January 07, 2002 9:51 PM Re: [GJ] stuff > Zamani, > > You're sounding a bit heavy handed here -- more like a friend of yours. :-) > I think your message cut out before you made the final point about Kala > Sarpa Yoga, but I just wanted to address the issue of the 20th century and > psychology. Guest guest
Dear Zamani Some prefer to understand Vedic astrology as it is and it has done quite well to survive 5000 years .Have there not been changes over the last 5000 years and Vedic astrology has still been relevant and applicable .I'm not sure what purpose making provocative statements serves since the list has been doing nicely and the history shows it is a turn off for the majority of people who are hear to learn and exchange ideas . Best Wishes Nicholas ..While computer strength and speed have caught up to the ancient art and practice of Vedic Astrology, new trains of thought have not; indeed, if you hang out over at GJ's list or anywhere else for that matter, you will hear all kinds of dated, old, rigid commentary culled from books that are at least 50 yrs old, and most often, several thousand! We all have to change with the times, and VA should be no different.
