Guest guest
dear John, Welcome...and thanks. I have read different versions of the bhagavad Gita. My favourite one is the one translated by Srila Prabhupada. I advise that one to read to everyone willing to learn about the Vedas. Prabhupada writes in a very easy way but he gives a lot of guidance and information in his purports. <<I've heard that Maharishi once said "Reincarnation is for the ignorant". >> Ignorance means a connection to or a need to Jnana, knowledge. Knowledge is helpful in a way and different from Hata. Hata is also helpful and different from bakti or devotion. I follow the path of bhakti which gives knowledge as well during the process of devotion. In my personal view, we are trying to find wholness. The whole (purna)...om purnam adam purman idam like the Sri Isopanisad say is complet in Himself. Because He alone is the source of everything (purna), He is Sat CiT Ananda vigraha, or Etenity, Knowledge, Bliss, and vigraha = body. Meaning that His body is eternal, full of knowledge and full of bliss. If we are searching for any of those energies or even for a single one, by finding Him, we find everything. In a way i agree that reincarnation is for the ignorant because ignorance keeps us here. But i think that even by knowing we come here. There are two kind of souls, the ignorant and the wise. But the wise can be also limited by his own karma and can never be the controller. The last word is with the Supreme Lord. Then again, there are wise people that although liberated choose to reincarnate to help others. Some others would say that ignorance is bliss. Guest guest
Natabara, I am reading Srila Prabhupada's translation of the Gita, particularly the chapters 7 to the end. However, I identify with Maharishi's ideas relating to karma yoga. Maharishi says that the karma yogi is more effective than a recluse from the world. As a meditator, I appreciate the Gita's passage stating "Nistraigunyo bhavarjuna", or "Be without the gunas, Arjuna." Maharishi has also emphasized the Gita's passage which says, "Yogastah kuru karmani", which is translated as "Established in yoga, perform actions". His ideas are profound and enlightening particularly for people who are active in the world, or who are householders. Everyone has a different path for understanding the Self. I hope that you find yours to be the most blissful.
