Guest guest
Om Sri Krsnaaya Namah Dear Chandramukha, > > Please help me to understand as in Prashna determined Arudha? In many > treatises there are different methods of definition its what most correct? > The Arudha Lagna in Prashna is an ingenious concept that is found in no system of horary astrology, apart from Jyotish as far as I know. Imagine the following scenario - You, a known astrologer, are at some social function, and someone approaches you with a question. You answer this by preparing a chart, but you find that very soon you are inundated with twenty questions (remember the chart will be the same), and to make things worse let's say four or five of these questions are along the lines of: "When will I get married?" So the problem that confronts you is how on earth do you now answer the same question from the same chart, while knowing that giving the same answer to everybody is illogical? Here lies the utility of Prashna Arudha. This concept is different from the standard definition of Arudha given by Parashara and Jaimini. Prashna Arudha essentially refers to a sign that is somehow chosen at random, and treating it like the lagna. There are definite random methods for this, some highly ritualistic and elaborate, while others are simpler. All of these require that the astrologer accept that there is something "connecting" time, space and everything, and that ultimately, if God wants to give you an answer, you will get the right Arudha. Since these methods are all random (or at least should be), there is no one method which is better than another. If the moment of query was auspicious, and Divinity wishes the querent to receive a correct answer or the astrologer to make correct predictions, then the astrologer will choose the correct Arudha Lagna. The simplest method to select arudha is for the astrologer and querent to pray to their Ishta Devata, and then the querent should be asked to choose a number between 1 and 108 (Krishnamurti people say 249 with a slightly different system). This number should then be divided by 9. The quotient tells you how many full signs have already elapsed and so adding one, you get the rashi chart's arudha lagna. The remainder tells you how many navamsha of that sign have passed. So, lets say you choose 60: 62/9 = 6 r 8 So, 6 full signs elapsed. 6 + 1 = 7 = Libra The Rashi arudha Lagna is Libra The Navamsha arudha Lagna is the eighth navamsha of Libra i.e. Taurus So now the chart would be judged from these reference points. Another more elaborate and exotic method based on numbers is where a querent is asked to pick a handful of cowry shells or lotus seeds, and a similar procedure is carried out. The shells used for this purpose are kept solely for that purpose and are respected greatly, almost worshipped as an instrument revealing the Lord's will, just as we might respect our japa beads, or kanthi malas. Another method is to analyse the first sound that emanate from the querent's mouth in asking the question. These can be related to certain signs. Or you can see what parts of the body they touch when asking the question. Or you can see the direction from which they approach you, although bear in mind that if you have an office with one door, and a desk in a fixed place, this will give the same results every time. The methods are almost endless. Now I'll just mention a bit of what I've seen in the past twelve months in my close examinations and records of prashnas. If a single sincere question is placed to you at a spontaneous time, it is extremely likely that the natural chart, with the normal udaya lagna will reveal the greatest details to you. Arudha may be used for more detail, but the lagna is normally quite satisfactory. But, if you are in the social scenario, or you have a limited hour or two everyday at the same time for people to ask prashnas, or the same querent asks multiple questions one after the other, Prashnas looked at from the viewpoint of arudha will be more useful. In any case, more experience prashna jyotishis may have different views on the use of arudha, but these are my views. Hope this helps, Pursottam _______ Get your free @ address at
