I have read Das posting about guru and i would like to add somethings of my personal experience.

 

I was told that there are 3 gurus:

 

The first class guru has both feet in the spiritual world taking by his mercy

the conditioned souls and converting them to enter that level.

 

The second class guru has one foot there in the spiritual world and one foot

here in the material world, helping people to get there.

 

The third class guru has both feet here in the material world helping others to

reach higher levels of consciousness.

 

Sometime by good luck we get in touch with a first class guru. When we get in

touch with other gurus we still advance but sometimes we suffer

dissappointments because they leave the spiritual path. Nevertheless, because

a 2nd and 3rd class guru are following the spiritual line, or in other words,

because they are connected to the agency of the Divine, whatever service we

offer to them with the consciousness that we are serving the absolute, we are

sure of getting good points in our spiritual path.

 

Sometimes, due to our karma we are destined to see a guru leaving the spiritual

path, but if we are sincere, Krishna will send us a guru that is going to help

us in our spiritual endeavours.

 

When we serve sincerely in the spiritual path, everything we do is taken into

account and it will be rewarded with divine intervention.

 

Sometimes due to our karma, we go to a guy that is not even a guru and because

we do not know about spiritual matters, he will cheat us badly. So what is a

real guru and what is a bogus guru. We have shastra (books to consult) and

sadhu (student of spiritual life) to consult and our sincerity.

 

So, lets pray to Krishna that we are advancing with sincerity in our spiritual path.
