Dear Nicholas,

I said I would digress, but I just had to address the following that you

wrote:

You wrote:

"However it should be noted that many of the best astrologers in India do

not use much more than rasi, divisionals, Gochara and Vimshottari (with

prasna also applied on the fore mentioned) . The reason is that these in

themselves are not easily understood and therefore these astrologers prefer

depth to width".

My reply:

How many astrologers in India have you met? Indian astrologers are about

as diverse in their methodologies, as there are language dialects in

India. I have met the following astrologers in my travels in India: One

person, who gave accurate events from the past, as well as predictions,

only on the basis of Prashna charts; another, who used only Ashtakavarga

and transits, and not even the rasi chart; another astrologer who read from

palm leaves; another who insisted that only conditional Parasari dasas be

used, in conjunction with divisional charts; another (in Himachala Pradesh)

who only used Yogini dasa and yearly charts; another who progressed planets

by one Navamsa per year, and used no signs, naksatras, or houses; another

who did not use 12 zodiacal signs, only naksatras; and yet another, who

used a lagna based upon your body movements when you entered his room. If

you think that there is an ABC approach to astrology in India, think

again. Considering this, your statement above reveals that you haven't

traveled much in India, nor have you met that many Indian astrologers.

Besides, the methodologies that Sanjay Rath teaches, such as the practical

use of Arudha padas, Argala, rashi dasas, divisional chart analysis, etc.,

are as much Parasari, as apple pie is American. Some astrologers do not

have the inclination, desire, or motivation to go into those areas, but

that does not mean that those who do, are over-complicating things, or

using "obscure methods". If you prefer a certain basic approach, that's

fine. And as to your getting "depth, as opposed to width", so far I have

not heard much in the way of depth from the astrological posts of those who

prefer the "Cliff Note" (over-simplified) approach. Anyway, it is simply a

matter of how you, or I, or anybody is intuitively and intellectually

oriented toward the science. Try not to prejudice the approach of

another, only because it does not suit your way of seeing or analyzing a

chart. As Das said once, the followers and teachers in Sanjay Rath's

disciplic lineage have a right to be on this list and express their views

too, don't they?

Best wishes,

Robert
