Purushottama,

Dear Purushottama,

My first visits to ISCKON temples started in Mexico City in 1972 but more formal

in Paris from 1973. From my experiences as an astrologer, temples had some

internal rules and one of them was that I was not allowed to talk astrology in

the temples.

I always respected that rule because temples are for talking about Krishna and

not about astrology. One day (1973) I found by accident the ephemerides used by

the temple president in Paris and I was preached that astrology was maya. Even

now, the Newcastle temple devotees told me that rule which I respect. I do

readings to those that they wish outside the building. Other temples depending

on who is in charge can change that rule. For example, the temple president of

the Bhaktivedanta Manor in 1979-80, opened the doors to me as an astrologer.

Srila Prabhupada came to the West mainly to give us Krishna, Srimad Bhagavatam,

Caitanya Charitamrita, and he did not deal with vedic astrology but knew about

it as any well literated Indian is. In his books he encourages vedic astrology

as a science in more than one ocassion.

Devotees or newcomers can achieve more by learning about Krishna than astrology.

I am telling you this to describe the mood of a devotee which has more priority

on Krishna than in astrology. To say that Prabhupada found the capricorn reading

to be most accurate, can be misleading. It is a relative thing. His absolute

teaching was Krishna, and astrology was relative.

best wishes

Natabara
