Guest guest
Om Krsnaaya Namah Dear Dharmapada, Here's my response to the various points you raise in your last few mails: (1) Shyamasundara Dasa's book - this is a free word document. If you write to him, I'm sure he'll send it to you. I could do so myself, but as it's not my work, it would be unethical of me to do so. (2) "Jupiter is a powerful natural benefic" - this was a generic statement, in the sense that Venus and Jupiter are powerful natural benefics as opposed to Moon and Mercury, who's status is fickle. (3) Viparita Raja Yoga - I presented why I thought this is a VRY. You said it's not, and that I was making up my own rules. So in response I cited both classical and contemporary evidence, in support of my argument, one of which clearly said that the conjunction of dussthana Lords may take place in ANY dussthana. In response to this you said I was being too mechanical. It seems to me that unless one accepts the rules of "Dharmapada Hora" without disagreement with them, you are going to label them as making things up anyway, despite the fact that authoritative evidence supporting my point was presented. So if I say this without presenting evidence, I'm making up the rules. If I quote sastra, I'm being too mechanical. The conclusion is that it is a no-win situation, for you are unwilling to accept that there are opinions other than your own which are held to be valid my many. (4) Guru Chandala Yoga - This is usually stated to be caused by the conjunction of Rahu and Jupiter. You are the first I know to apply it to Ketu as well. As I said, K N Rao finds this to be a very spiritual combination, and as per the rules given by Maharshi Jaimini on looking at the chances for moksha, a Ketu Jupiter conjunction in the twelfth from karakamsa lagna would be extremely suggestive of moksha. So here also, because I don't accept your definitions and rules, I am in the wrong it seems. (5) My "logic is continually off the wall or misapplied" - This was your response to my statement that "Jupiter is a powerful natural benefic. His extremely close conjunction with Ketu benefits Ketu greatly. Ketu's dispositor Sun is also in it's own sign. Ketu is able to give excellent results". All authorities on this subject that I can think of, classical and contemporary, agree that in the judgement of the effects of the nodal dashas, the influence of planets they conjoin as their dispositors is crucial. This principle works. This is not misapplied logic. Ketu is a node. Its dasha was being assessed. It is closely conjunct benefic Jupiter. Its dispositor Sun is in his own sign, associated with benefic Jupiter. This is suggestive of good results, and the logic is likely to be accepted by most authorities, as this principle of judging associates and dispositors is a classical principle. (6) Your own mechanical, simplistic arguments - You say that because the eighth house is evil, Ketu Mahadasha, should have been bad. You say that because Mars aspects the eleventh from a trikona, an elder brother should be there. These seem a bit simplistic to me. (7) Jupiter as karaka for elder siblings - it is true that I do not recall seeing this in the classics. However, the view is certainly old. Hart deFouw spent something like 15 years studying jyotish from his guru, and considering the way parampara's work, it is likely that this comes from previous generations. James Braha studied in India, and among his mentors was R Santhanam, a noted astrologer, and translator of many classics. In the jyotish parampara of which I am a small branch, Jupiter is taught to signify elder siblings, and this parampara is traced back to Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu. So this view certainly has a history. Ultimately, everybody goes by experience, while offering due respect to classics. I have spent quite some time studying this matter, and in the greater majority of charts, I have found Jupiter to work as the karaka for elder siblings. (8) Prabhupada's married life - On at least two separate occasions, I have asked you personally to explain the misery Prabhupada endured in married life. In your responses, this bit of my mails is conveniently left out, because there is absolutely nothing that you can disagree with in my argument, and you cannot find significant affliction in the Sagittarius chart. Instead you are concentrate on responding to those arguments which are controversial, and you continuously slag them off, through petty name-calling and slander. You attempt to take focus away from the difficult questions through personal attacks. I therefore now make this (or shall try to make this) my last direct mail to you on this subject because I don't see my debate with you progressing anywhere, and I don't think that the tone taken in this discussion with you is appropriate in the discussion of a great saint. I don't mind the fact that you have strong opinions, but when you start personally attacking me through name-calling such as gypsy, sub-standard etc., especially when I substantiate all my controversial arguments with shastric and contemporary references, I think it's time for me to pull out. I can be petty, argumentative and insulting, but this is not my style and certainly is not appropriate in the discussion of this particular chart, in this sacred month. Clearly you will not agree with other's arguments, even if substantiated through various types of evidence, unless they match your own, and if this is not the case you will slander them and the evidence supporting them. I refuse to participate in a discussion which is disrespectful to certain jyotish shastras. In any case as I said, my discussion with you is not going anywhere, and is simply wasting time that I can't afford to spare arguing. Far better for me to increase a few rounds. Hare Krsna!
