<<What is Karma at all? >>

Every action has a reaction.

<<But the fundamental question is, if birth is a result of past karma, the first

birth must have been preceded by some action. Where was this act committed, that

led to the birth? Was this deed inevitable or by choice or accident? If

inevitable, what compelled it?>>

In eternity, there is not beginning and not end. If we can remember our

beginning, we will go mad. We are here because we wanted to be God, to control

and enjoy everything.

It was a choice because we chose it.

It was an accident, because we did dont know the risk.

It was inevitable because it was the only path for us to learn and get purified.

<<what compelled it?>>

Our own curiosity and nature.

<<1. If it was a compulsion, the idea of total determinism creeps in: the soul

cannot strive for anything at all, but has to drift from one compulsion to

another.>>

I think so. We have to drift until we get divine intervention.

Determinism? I like to give the following example: We are like a bull attached

to a rope, from the nose to a pole.

We have enough freedom to eat as much as we want as the diametre of that rope

allow us.

<<Since we have an intellect, the

experience is not just to be gone through, but to be mentally analysed and

understood. This analysing is an act of free-will.>>

Unfortunatelly, most of us do not want to think about it but only at the moment

of strees, miseries or nearly death. It is a wisdom opening can.

<<An accident, however, would have been most likely corredted quickly and

simply, without having to create a planet of such

complexity.>>

Can you mention any other alternative to correct a rascal like me?

<< The lerning process is the only explanation that appeals to me. So "choice"

seems to be the best, but "compelled". Going to school is compulsory, but what

one finally studies is by choice. And not learning the lessons means repeating

semesters. By taking up more subjects one can speed up the learning.>>

The learning also apeals to me but the problem is that I never learn my lessons

and i have to repeat them again and again. So much that i am starting to like

this place of sukha and dukha, enjoyment and suffering.

<<Rebirth is then not a "result" of past karma, but a continuation of studies>>

IMHO, it is both, a result and a continuation.

<<The purpose of life is to understand the purpose of life!>>

But somehow i am still here, cos i have not understood, otherwise i would not be

here.

Natabara
