Dear Robin, Thanks for letter. Actually I had not read your other letters: just keep downloading all the letters for later reading, read only that which seems directly to me. I am shocked by what has happened to you and your son. This is a strange world..... "Throw not pearls before pigs, for they will not understand you, but will get into a rage and tear you apart!" The US police system is a relic of the wild west, full of brutality. Also a political force, where the top boss is - I think - appointed by the governor etc. so that it is not a continuous administrative force. So political manipulations are reflected. In fact the police force reflects the society itself: the cop is as afraid of the citizen and vice versa. Typical of this is the procedure when a patrol car stops you when driving : in the US you have to stop, put your hands on the wheel and wait for zhe cop to open the door etc. If you do anything else like rolling down the window glass he may shoot you! In Europe we just open the window and ask what he wants, a conversation follows, papers are shown etc. It is only when the cop is acting on a hot tip or chase that he points a gun at you and tells you to come out. Henry James said that people get the government they deserve. The authorities are mean because there are too many criminals. If everyone carries a gun because he is not safe without it, it means that there is no mutual trust or honesty amongst the people. Europe is not a paradise, but crime level is much lower, the police more polite. unfortunately things are getting worse here too. The cops in England were famous for their helpfulness - but the people of England were also trustable. Even there things are changing, the mad behaviourof the Irish provokes brutality! Wishing you and son a successful outcome, regards Mani
Guest guest
My karma brought me to this world as an Irish Catholic American. I really can't identify with any of the things that you have said. My interest is in astrology, not guns and my behavior is that of any mother of 6 children, mad at times, but not necessarily mad in general. Peoples behavior is, to the most extent, determined by the life that they earn and since we cannot accurately determine what our past karma is, maybe we shouldn't judge them. You don´t have to accept any of my opinions. 2. The laws of karma are too complicated to discuss or understand. 3. I do no not pass judgement on individuals, but evaluate the social situation. The last time I was in the States walking in Haarlem, New York was an act of bravery. Today it is apparently different! My niece is in the Columbia University and moves around freely, where I was warned and told to wear only torn clothes to give an impression of being a penniless bum! I went around in worn jeans and nothing happened to me. But my nephew in the States has been mugged many times - he has got used to it!!! The US consists of the active people and the Silent Majority. The Silent Majority is a lethargic and ineffective section. The active minority decides what happewns in elections, on the road, in the economy. The tail wags the dog! The US was founded on the greatest ideals of mankind, is yet the the greatest country that disregards these ideals. The american president Woodrow Wilson initiated the idea of the League of Nations, the US senate refused to join!!! 4. I too as father of 3 children am not interested in Guns in the least - only what happens with guns! When I read of massares in schools I DO GET MAD! 5. My letter was mainly addressed to Robin: who lives in the midst of violence and terror. If you are living ing in Kansas, watching the Missouri flowing, where everyone is friendly, you are lucky: but your country is huge, the accent is not set in the cornfields but in the hot spots! regards Mani
Guest guest
>From one curious reader Peoples behavior is not one aspect of ir life that is germane or vital to karma. I agree with you when you say that the behavior is patterned by the cultural mould people happen to live. The behavioral pattern is unrelated to karma, it is acquired in a single life, the one we are living, in the era we are living. The concept of karma stems from a collection of thoughts that presupposes the indestructibility of spirit, more commonly referred to as soul. If the soul is considered to be detached from the the overall force that drives the Universe,- call it god, spirit, nature. whatever you want to call- the concept of karma becomes totally irrelevant. Therefore, the question of accurately determining past karma is out of question. If we were able to determine our past karma, even vaguely, the knowledge is quite useless to evolve into the consciousness that drives the Universe. The past karma is the reason why you are here, the present karma, the nature of which is the bridge that leads you to the answer that most of us seek, not necessarily all of us. May peace be with you. - gjlist 8/31/2001 3:54:31 PM Re: [gjlist] Police - non-astro Hossesgirl wrote: My karma brought me to this world as an Irish Catholic American.
