Hence your father in law seems to have sagittarius lagna, did you perhaps mean 12:50 PM? Please confirm. Interesting in his chart is this exact conjunction of mars and saturn in ashlesha, (an ear ruling nakshatra) under star MERCURY as you mentioned. Jupiter was stationary one day before his birth on 18°53 taurus and so jupiter will become another sensitive point along with mars and saturn on 19°14 (Houck ayanamsha). In his prenatal stage an eclipse ocured on 19°36 sagittarius. So we could expect, that this degree would have been triggered on may 12th or 13th. When you look at his transits you will see MERCURY passing 19° taurus and thus rasi jupiter in the morning of may 13th. He ran jupiter rahu MERCURY moon. The moon passed another sensitive degree, namely 10° capricorn and so "opened" another prenatal eclipse on 10° capricorn. This degree has just been activated due to neptun`s station in oct 2000 on 10° and due to an eclipse in his 1st house on christmas 2000 also on 10°! Though you perhaps want to ignore neptune, this planet obviously plays a role in this man`s horoscope, because he formed an exact opposition to natal neptun on 14°03 cancer and exactly within a quinqunx ( this aspect often indicates illness!) to transit rahu on 14°53 gemini, a MERCURY ruled sign and the natural 3rd house. Interestingly we have a similar case, regarding the degrees in Wendy`s chart given of the man, born june 29th 1948: He has cancer rising and supposed his time is correct (?), lagna is also under star ashlesha conjoint with saturn. When burst of mastoid occured, he ran MERCURY rahu sun and jupiter/saturn on sept 3. 1969. Around this day the following planets occupied degrees around 14° and 15° too: MERCURY on virgo 15°, jupiter on virgo 15°, venus on 14° cancer and saturn rx on 15°25 aries. Saturn became stationary on august 21 1969. thus aspecting gemini with MERCURY, his 12th house. Mercury is not good for cancer ascendants and you know how shaby an afflicted mercury can be. Mars was on 26°57 scorpio directly opposite to his natal mars 26°53 leo and transit mars also aspected gemini! Natal moon is around 10° pisces. An eclipse on 10°aquarius (aug 27.1969) triggered this degree and uranus was directly opposite moon in virgo, his 3rd house along with above mentioned MERCURY, jupiter (and pluto). Transit rahu in aquarius, the natural 11th house - left ear - formed a square with natal jupiter. If you regard his varshapal chart for the 21th year, you will find scorpio lagna with mars and neptun, saturn and venus in aries (head),- being now his 6th house of disease-, MERCURY in taurus, thus aspected by mars, the sun in gemini, -the 8th house now -, danger! and ketu, jupiter and uranus are in virgo, a MERCURY ruled house, the natural house of disease, the natal 3rd house of ears and now being the eleventh: left ear! Mudda dasa major period was mars from august 17th until september 6th. Because this man had a very low kakshya bindu chart on sept 3rd with only 1 bindu given by saturn, this day might have been the day when mastoid bursts or he went very bad this day and illness happened some days earlier. Assuming that his ascendant degree of around 18° will be right, he ran mercury rahu sun (Houck) and the sun in leo was exactly within 30° to his ascendant. For my opinion we have to observe mercury`s role carefully in all cases of deafness. It is right that jupiter also plays a role, but due to mercury`s connection with nerves and communication as well as with the natural 3rd and 6th house we MUST EXPECT a connection with Mercury, may it be in the natal chart or in the transit chart when deafness occured later in life. Mercury and saturn and as you might have seen: rahu - these planets are highly important in charts of afflicted hearing. Rahu and moon in regards of pus; mars and sun in regards of inflammation, perhaps also jupiter, being a hot planet. Does he too much? too much pus, too much inflammation...?; venus has to be observed in regards of vertigo, - perhaps mucus also - and saturn rules calcifination or malnutritition of the hearing nerve; uranus makes interruptions and neptun muddles or deadens hearing; pluto rules caverns, thus scorpio with coruler pluto is often involved.... To see what happened during WW11 one would need to consider the dasa periods operating at that time...and so on... Just to keep it as simple as possible without too much confusion...(the danger of intellectualising myself into insanity is perilously near)...this is what I was taught right from the beginning: 1. The part of the body represented by the bhava (or sign) can be afflicted if it's occupied by a malefic.... 2. The part of the body represented by a benefic (graha) can be afflicted if it occupies a dusthana (or is otherwise afflicted).... Your father-in-law was running JU-RA-KE-MA dasa (Lahiri ayanamsha) when this current problem with his ear began. His dasa period supports this with JU (ears) in 6th; malefic RA in lagna (deafness). The transit on that date (May 13) activates this with KE/MA transiting RA in lagna...Mars (accident...the nurse accidentally damaged his ear) aspects natal RA and transiting RA, transiting KE and natal KE...so the potential for accident was there. Jupiter was also transiting his natal position in 6th house in the company of Saturn and Mercury. Perhaps when I'm less tired than I am today I'll see more clearly...for now this is just the basic manifestation of dasa and transits according to traditional jyotish principles.... He's having a terrible time with one ear in particular for the past few months. And previously he had suffered loss of hearing due to his time flying planes in WWII in both ears. Currently though, he went into the hospital emergency room for something not related to his ears, and he commented on his ear feeling uncomfortable. The nurse in an effort to help him, 'scraped' his ear or something like this, was too rough, and this instead has caused many problems since in this ear, and loss of hearing temporarily. But still this complete loss has been consistent now for a few months. All through his Jupiter/Rahu/Jupiter, if not even beginning in Jupiter/Rahu/Rahu (I will try to find out the exact date and definitely ask which ear is the one suffering complete deafness currently). He also just received new hearing aids during this time. (Of course with the one ear he isn't able to use the new aid yet.) His dasas currently are Jupiter/Rahu. His Rashi Lagna is Sag, with Jupiter in the 6th house in Taurus. Rahu is also located in Lagna. Venus is in his 11th house in Libra. With Sag Lagna, 2nd and 3rd house are both Saturn ruled, and Saturn sits in his 8th house with debilitated Mars in Cancer.
