Deafness

I was taught that th' 3rd house rules the ears and hearing...the

right ear, especially. While the 11th house rules the left ear. I

have Saturn in lagna and, indeed, I suffer a hearing loss...with the

right ear having a worse loss than the left. While I may have had

this condition since childhood, I believe it was caused by a

situation that occurred in my late 20's...perhaps, when my first

Saturn return occurred. I have not traced the event.

Let me cite the following article of Major S.G.Khot, author of the book:

Astrology and Diagnosis.

 

" Deafness and Ear Diseases

The second and third house rule the ears. The second house rules the outer

part of the ear and the third house rules the inner portion. Jupiter is

significator for all troubles and diseases connecting ears. Again, second

and third house rule the right ear, while twelfth and eleventh houses rule

the left one. In the natural zodiac, Taurus and Gemini signs rule over the

right ear, while Pisces and Aquarius signs rule over the left ear. Saturn

has also a role in causing deafness. When the above houses, their lords and

signifying planets ruling ears be afflicted and be in any way related with

the disease in the ears. Afflicted and malefic mars in the houses ruling

ears or affliction of the houses ruling ears by aspect of malefic mars give

rise to tumours in the ears. As ears are the organs of hearing, the airy

houses, gemini, libra aquarius signs have also something to do in the

matters of hearing and ear disease.

Jupiter is significator or both tongue and ears and affliction of jupiter

with second house and other houses and planets ruling tongue and ears give

to both dumbness and deafness. When strong malefics pass through these

houses in transit or afflict them by transit, they give rise to pains and

diseases connecting tongue and ears......"

 

 

 

Dr.K.S.Charak writes in his book: Essentials of Medical Astrology:

" Ear disease must be judged from the following:

a) Mercury: Mercury deals with the hearing as well as communications of any

sort. A strong mercury under benefic influences indicates a strong and

healthy hearing mechanism. Affliction indicate the reverse.

b) The Third house: the third house is the house in the horoscope concerned

with hearing. Benefic influences on the third house / third lord ensure a

healthy hearing system.

c) The eleventh house: The 3rd house and the 3rd lord indicate the right ear

(besides the faculty of hearing). The 11th house and the 11th lord lord

indicate the left ear.

Benefic and malefic infuences on mercury, the 3rd house/ 3rd lord, and the

11th house/ 11th lord indicate the stat of health of the ears. ......."

 

 

Dr. Jagannath Rao writes in his book: "Medical Astrology":

"The ear is divided into three parts, the external, middle and internal.

Disease of the external ear is of no importance. But the disease of the

other two parts cause much discomfort and disability. Any irritation and

inflammation in the middle ear will lead to pus formation and if neglected

will ultimately result in partial or total deafness. So, as far as the ears

is concerned in astrology, deafness is the only major disease for which

combinations are available in ancient texts.

The 3rd and 11th houses govern the right and the left ear respectively.

Apart from these houses, the 9th, 8th, 6th, 5th and 12th houses come also in

the picture, when the planets responsible for causing the ear-diseases

aspect either the 3rd or 11th houses from these positions. Some authors

ascribe a few more signs als for ear-disease for which there is no

justification. For instance the sign cancer, scorpio and pisces are said to

cause predisposition of ear diseases. But I can say with my experience that

there is no justification for this. In my opinion it is not the sign but the

bhava which is more important in considering any disease. I have a number of

horoscopes where the above mentioned signs have not caused any ear-disease,

though they happen to be the 3rd or 11th from the lagna. It is not correct

to say that fishes have no ears. They too have ears and quite sharp for

purpose. In the same manner a scorpion as also a crab are given their

hearing aids, though the organs may not look like the ones given to animals

and human-beings. On the other hand you will find that the signs Mithuna and

Kanya are capable of causing ear disease, for these two are governed by

Mercury who is the chief causative-planet for ear diseases. When these signs

fall in the ascendant or in the houses governing ears, cause pedispose a

person to ear- disease. ...."

 

You see, there is still a lot to do....
