Dear Listers

I am one of those silent types who keeps in on your

discussions, but seldom speaks out for fear that I

will be criticised. No longer. The question of

remedial measures is one that appeals to me, probably

better than "diagnostic" astrology, because I

believe, it is important to say "what now?". I know

I'm in deep kimchi but what now ??

In my personal opinion, remedial measures are like

the rest of the vedic system, in that they are of

three types. Like you have 3 gods taking care of three

worlds, three main nadis to control shakti, three

gunas and even in astrology three types of planets

(neutral, enemy and friendly, the other two being

extensions)

Remedial measures are broadly categorised into

Tantric, those that are deed or action related,

mantric - those that are prayer related and yantric -

those that are object related. They are (not linked to

the first three) also known as Jap (mantra based)

Tap(Personal sacrifice based) and Vrat (other

sacrificae based)

The influences of each type of remedial measure is

vastly different. Yantra is composed of such items as

gemstones, taviz (amulets), yantras of all kinds

numeric or otherwise, rudrakshas, beads of various

kinds, flowers taht may be pleasing to a deity,

clothes, colors, grains, etc. In short, anything that

is a different object used to attain an objective is

yantra. Obviously the sevrity of effects of such items

range from just mild inflences to major things

happening (a penknife is far less effective than say a

bowie knife) but thay are also temporary. Once you

remove the yantra, no effects take place.

Tantra is compose of action, and includes using

yantras and mantras, but mainly consists of using

remedial measures liek appeasing gods by performing

actions that are liekd by them. These inlude eating

particular grains on particular days, wearing clothes

made of fiber that is patronised by a god, using a

item that is liked by a god, offering flowers to that

god, offering particular kinds of alms to particular

kinds of people, food to specific birds / animals,

fasting on particular days etc., (remember here, gods

are the gods in charge of a graha or friendly to it).

mantra is composed chiefly of meditating using

sentences / words to remember a particular God.

Coming back to Jap, Tap and Vrat, these are

categorised as Jap being a no undertaking based

rememberance of a God to achieve a particular

objective. The effects of Jap are said to carry over

into the next life if it is used for attaining

nirvana, till such time as you achieve nirvana.

Tap is another method which includes performing fasts

along with the mantras, but normally it is mantra +

tantra based. This mainly includes fasting on a

particular day, and doing japas of that God, but may

also consist of tapasyas like singing hymns or

suchlike to show your devotion. A combination of

personal sacrifice and mental orientation to a God to

attain a goal is best what Tap is about.

Vrat is like tap, but normally vrats are performed by

people who are close to you. Normally vrats are

performed on specific days to attain specific

objectives. The difference is that vrats are generally

more global in nature and a designated vrat day is

normally when all believers in vedic hinduism observe

vrats. They are like oaths or undertakings that are

temporary.

In astrology the group discussed about whether yantra

remedial measures really work. Yes, they do, if the

prescription is accurate and when diagnosing

consideration is taken to account for factors that may

cause side effects like dasas, gochara placements,

isht and kasht phalas and most importantly the

objective sought.

A generally benefic planet can nevr do all bad, and

vice versa, but they can definetly push in the right

direction provided everything else is OK.

When prescribing a gem for remedy, study the isht and

kasht phala, and the dasa placements. Also look at the

gochara for adverse transit effects. It is important

to use the yantra as a storage device so first clean

it with pure thought (use milk and water to wash it

and mentally think as if by washing it you are ridding

it of any adversity it may cause you). Then fill it

with good thoughts of how good the presiding god of

that gem is, how powerful he is and how he can help

you by residing in the gem so whenever you have the

gem, it represents that God helping you out. reciting

mantras to appease him fills the gem with good

thoughts and "furnishes" the gem with suitable

accomodation for the presiding gods energy.

I havent read any book by James Braha but am eager to

know more about remedies. I do belive I had a long

session expounding on my personal belief.

May God give you all Sadbuddhi(Good knowledge) Shanti

(Peace) Sampatti (Wealth) and Samruddhi (progress).

Jai Mataaji.
