Hi Chris, I'm also very interested in the 'body of evidence' for remedial measures. I've gained a lot from this discussion and thank everyone participating in it. I hope people continue to post as they find out more. The bijaM mantram I chanted for bRhaspati was this: OM zrI braM bRhaspataye namaH I'm using the Harvard-Kyoto transliteration scheme as follows: ----------------------- a A i I u U R RR lR lRR e ai o au M H k kh g gh G c ch j jh J T Th D Dh N t th d dh n p ph b bh m y r l v z S s h ----------------------- zrI is identified with lakSmI or fortune bram is identified with growth, strength bRhaspataye is the dative form of bRhaspati meaning 'to bRhaspati' or 'for bRhaspati' So the mantram is supposed to invoke the growth of fortune, an attribute of bRhaspati, then give reverence to bRhaspati. I have found a great variety of bijamantrANi -- kind of a mix and match to invoke what you're asking for. I chant this mantram 108 times on Thursday. Sometimes I can feel a tangible result even before the 108 have been done, sometimes nothing. The level of result for me seems tied to the level of relaxation and 'immersion', of 'surrender' to it. >I'm glad you can return the gems and get a refund. That's the one saving >grace of this whole "business" end of jyotish. Your case is interesting >because it goes against the conventional wisdom of strengthening weak >planets. Of course, there is another popular view that says to only >strengthen strong planets. I honestly don't know which school of thought I >favour. Perhaps your reaction was really an anomaly, or perhaps it is >solid evidence for the latter view. I guess we all should pay more >attention to this and form our own opinions over time. Yeah, I'm willing to consider my reaction an anomaly, but I'm certainly going to ask around a bit more. Everyone who has offered analysis and suggestion so far has contradicted the advice of the well-known jyotiSi I counseled with first. So maybe the first reading was anomalous? Definitely, live and learn. :-) Light to all of us! ~Beau
