Just my two cents!

To conform to the laws of the universe is the only answer, the law

of balance! to much of this, and you will suffer, to little of that,

and you will suffer the only real freedom you have is to decide, how

long will you tolerate your own suffering. Karma/Planets! The big

cattle probe! to move you along your evolution. To try to get you to

conform to the middle road, of what you might be lacking in or have an

over abundance of. Some great sage said ??? (Its not a matter of if you

get there, its only a matter of when) So you see this freedom you think

you have is only you trying to fool you! This is why I like this

affirmation from Deepak! and I quote: I will not fight the universe

because the universe is as it should be, and who Im I to fight the whole

universe.

You know! Non attachment, Non judgment .... Noel

Ahhh the good old karma vs.freewill argument. :) It is not an easy

one, no one likes the thought of not having freewill, myself

included!

The way I see it is this. We come into this world with specific karma

just for us. The main freewill we get choice over is whether to serve

Krishna or to serve maya. From there, we have very little freewill

although there are grey areas.

To take it into some detail, if one say, has some bad karma and

person does a bad thing to them so sometimes they may choose to do

something (good or bad, doesn't matter) to clear that bad thing that

happened to them, which in turn may cause more bad karma. However I

am not a believer in sitting idly by either as that is too often

irresponsibility in the name of religiousity. So to find the safest

thing to do and to add mantra, that can help. But this is how it all

plays out to the best of my knoweldge.

It is true that it will often show up in a chart, that one is more

inclined toward spiriutal ilfe or that remedial remedies will work

for that person. Nevertheless, the benedictions and predictions of

Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu are that even the most fallen will be

saved. Therefore everything will not be revealed in the charts. One

may aruge that God may therefore adjust the charts and send pious

souls who somehow or other have bad karma too, but that is not what

Lord Chaitanya said exactly. It may be included, but it is not

exclusive. After all, everyone is a child of God regardless of what

religion they practice and He wants them/us to all come back to home,

back to Godhead. So anyone at all can free themself of bad karma by

chanting the Holy Names, preforming devotional service and we may not

always be able to detect it in their chart. Now there's freewill for

ya!
