Once upon a time, there was a young sadhu living in a hut doing regular,

incessant sadhana - japa, dhayana, swaadhyaya, puja, bhajans - filling every

waking moment with thoughts of the Divine. In a neighbouring house lived a

family of three - a father, mother and daughter. The daughter had reached

the marriageable age. The parents were looking for a good match for their

well brought up daughter. One day the mother noticed the daughter's belly

starting to grow. In a few months time, to their horror, the daughter

delivered a beautiful baby. The parents were devastated. They tortured the

daughter to find out who the father was. The daughter was silent. The only

thing she did was to point in the direction of the hut, where the sadhu

lived. The parents grabbed the child and ran to the sadhu's hut. Hurled

abuses at him, left the infant at his doorstep and left. The sadhu looked at

the baby, smiled and thanked the Lord for His Gifts, as usual. From that day

onwards, he started tending to the baby (day and night) with the same

devotion with which he practised his sadhana before the child's arrival.

Months rolled by. The parents of the girl next door found out that their

daughter was having a relationship with a guy in the neighbouring village,

in the direction of the sadhu's hut. They came to the realization that the

child'd father was the guy from the neighbouring village. The daughter

confirmed this. They ran to the sadhu's hut with flowers and fruits and

apologized profusely for heaping abuses on him and relieved him of the baby.

The sadhu went back to his, original daily practices after thanking the

Lord, as his wont.

I read this story at a crucial time in my life, when I was unable to

cultivate the required attitude of "submission" to the Divine Will (as

ordained by the Divine Science of Astrology). The attitude derived from

reading this story has acted as the best "kavacha"/ remedy for me ever

since.

Love,

Arun
