Note to all listmembers! Emails asking you to "send to everyone you know" are

also called "spam."

California is a place I love. But it loves showtime more than substance. A

symbolic act is nothing more than an act. Getting their act together to PRODUCE

more energy is better than not having lights on for a few hours as "symbolism."

Thanks for listening,

Carol

Hi Carol,

>>>California is a place I love. But it loves showtime more than substance.

A symbolic act is nothing more >>>than an act. Getting their act together

to PRODUCE more energy is better than not having lights on for a >>>few

hours as "symbolism."

The 'Rolling Blackout' that this refers to isn't about California, but

rather was started by someone in Kansas with the stated opinions about

Bush's overall energy policies and his plans involving energy and the

environment.

Truthfully, I wasn't sure about sending it on the list, but decided it a

good place for anyone interested in participating and expressing a similar

feeling, and anyone not interested can just pass on it. It's kind of

interesting, in and of itself to me, that a group of people want to do this

to express their opinions and become involved.

Thanks for your words and interest. I don't know what to think of how

successful it will or will not be. If it is at all, it might be interesting

to look at astrologically too.

Namaste,

Patrice

Hi Patrice,

Thanks for your response. I for one, pass on this sort of thing,

including the idea of asking others to spread the idea of a stranger I do not

know. Once there was an activist in the neighborhood I lived in, in Orlando

Florida a number of years ago. She accosted me as I was preparing to leave my

just-parked car in the driveway. I had just bought groceries and was holding

the grocery bag when she came up to the car door. "Will you sign this

petition?" she asked me. I told her I was not interested since I did not

mind the activities of the neighborhood shopowner, which she found offensive.

But she badgered me and hounded me and pleaded with me and threw in all

kinds of ridiculous arguments, which since I was in a hurry to get into my

house with my groceries, I finally relented and signed her petition. The

result was that she took this petition to the local government and made a

formal complaint against the shopowner, stating that all the citizens who

signed the petition were as aggrieved as she was, evidenced by their

signatures! This carried a great deal of weight with the city fathers, and

so the shopowner was thenceforth disallowed from certain activities which he

did and were not offensive in the least, as I lived 3 doors away from his

shop and found no fault with him, and actually liked that he knew my children

by name.

The decision of the city fathers was to uphold the complaints of the lady

having a signed petition, curtail some of his activities (he would bring in

trucks with Christmas trees from his tree farm, and sell the trees for $10.00

apiece--every other place sold them for upwards of $25.00 apiece) and

disallow him to park tree-laden trucks along the roadside.

This shopowner obtained a copy of the petition and then spoke with his own

friends in the city government. They discussed the need to address apparent

violations of the city housing codes at the homes of those names on the

petition.

Result was extreme agony for all who'd signed, myself included, as we had to

do quick and costly roof repairs, repaint the exterior of my house, and other

requirements to meet the city code. I finally obtained a contract with roof

repairers who then stalled until I called them and said, "I am not doing this

for vanity's sake but because if I do not comply in 30 days, I will be fined

$500.00 per day!" They came and did the work but the roof still leaked, as

their work was shoddy. I called the city inspector and told him the work had

been done, and that my 3 sons and I had painted the house exterior, but that

the roof still leaked. The inspector kindly gave us an approval after

inspecting the house, and I later talked with the shopowner who told me he

had been so disappointed that I of all people, would go against him! I told

him how it wasn't how I felt at all, that I'd been badgered into signing, and

that I had no idea I would be misrepresented like that, when she said it was

only a "preliminary" petition and would only "bring the issue up for review",

etc. He and I made friends again, and I told him I was going to sell my house

and leave Orlando within the year, which I did!

Now I beware of any and all petitions started by anyone else. They were not

started from my heart; they do not deserve anything but a pass! I am not in

control of what others do, but of what I do. I will write to Presidents and

city fathers when my letter is from me, and I have done this. But to lend my

own signature or efforts to someone else's cause for which I have no

comprehension of their efforts other than as a negative expression against

another human being, I have no part in this! I love humanity too much to join

the karma of those groups who express enmity against their fellows.

Regards,

Carol
