GLA - a panacea?

Hello All:

At the risk of being Mr Wet Blanket here, I just wanted to add some

important points to the whole GLA and evening primose discussion. After

reading Cousens book, it's quite clear that he's talking about GLA for a

specific type of depression/neurotransmitter imbalance. Das has mentioned

this regarding dopamine imbalances, but I think it's getting applied to all

sorts of things in a general way. As I understand it, Cousens' typologies

of depressions are organized around which neurotransmitter is out of whack.

In Das' case, it was his need for a high from drugs or booze (the

Irish/Scottish gene) that was the big tip off that dopamine was the

problem. But this applies to only some forms of depression. Cousens is

clear that depressions mixed with anxiety are more likely to be caused by

serotonin imbalances. These are best treated with omega 3 oils such as

flaxseed and NOT GLA. He also has a regimen of other supplements that one

should follow besides the oils.

So, just in case, you were all rushing out and buying Evening Primose Oil

and wondering why it wasn't working the wonders that it has for Das, that

might be one explanation.

Chris
