Guest guest
Dear List, Since we are on this subject, I thought I'd send a great recipe for a really simple way to get more EFA's into your diet. And it's really excellent tasting too. I have served this often with crowds that would flinch at the thought of a "healthy drink" at places like Sally Mae's health fair. Had to slowly 'give out' the ingredients so they would get a sip before 'closing down' on the idea of it. Once they taste it, no problemo. I have raised four kids with this drink, and varieties of it, nearly every morning for more than 25 years. Now my daughter with two young kids and a husband who would not have ever considered eating tofu, also makes this every morning. He loves it. Orange Banana Smoothie Freshly squeezed orange juice 1 -2 Bananas Silken soft tofu, about 1/3 carton Flax oil (1-2 Tbl, or more - here you could also add primrose oil instead or additionally) Tahini (1-2 Tbl) This one sounds odd but is a great subtle addition and gives loads of calcium Spirulina (1-2 Tbl) Again odd sounding but is good and loaded with nutrients Several ice cubes if desired Put everything into blender and blend until smooth. You can add bee pollen for more vitamins, flax seeds too as well as the oil for texture, anything you'd like to get into your diet as a specific supplement such as ginseng, wheatgerm, lecithin, ginko biloba, gota kula, sunflower seeds, etc. It's great with strawberries or blueberries added too. Lecithin is high in choline, which is necessary for brain and liver functioning. It is comprised of 50% EFA by weight and is a dissolvent - breaks down fat, emulcifies fatty substances facilitating their elimination from the body. Many books I've read claim that the best source of EFA's are flax seeds. So it is a standard here that we do add flax oil. Common listed benefits of EFA's are shiny hair, smooth skin, enhanced smooth muscle action, normalization of blood sugar, improved immune system, brain and visual functions, adrenal gland function and sperm formation. As well as all the recent great word on them on the list. Check it out, it's good. Patrice
