Guest guest
Namaste friends, Thanks, Visti, for pointing out the principle quoted before, i.e. that three sections of the body are appropriate places for disease, based on the nature of the sign rising in the Drekkana chart. I gave one example of this, and now you are demonstrating it as well. Before I go on with some further demonstrations, I want to say this: -- Astrological principles are only guidelines; they are not hard and fast rules. There is no definite highway to get to where we are going with this study (i.e. correct analyses and prediction); there are only suggestions, yet suggestions coming from sages like Parasara, Jaimini and others. -- The jury's out on who's interpretation of the shlokas and sutras written by such sages is actually what the they meant, and some scholars will thus disagree on what the intent was. -- The work of serious astrologers thus is to find what a majority of scholars suggest in their translations and commentaries of such writings, and then research with what they have presented. With at least 10 case studies, the efficacy of a particular system of interpretation will be seen, or not. So coming to the point: Sage Jaimini suggests the following - apart from the rasi chart, which is always (obviously) consulted -- the following divisional charts for analysis of a medical condition: Drekkana, Shastamsa (6th division chart), Trimsamsa (30th), and Rudramsa, or Ekadamsa (11th division chart). The three of 6, 8, and 12th houses are the repositories of "Rina" (karmic debt) and resulting Roga (disease), and thus the above divisions are derived from them. Drekkana, or 3rd division, is appropriate as the 3rd house is 8th from the 8th; Shastamsa relates directly to the 6th division and 6th house; Trimsamsa is the 30th division. By expunging multiples of 12 signs, the base integer is 8 for the 30th division; and the 11th division, derives its virulence being that the 11th house is 6th from the 6th, and 12th from the 12th. MALEFIC DIVISIONS AND ARUDHAS -- The following have been shown to be particularly damaging so far as health matters are concerned: Mrtyu pada, or the Arudha of the 8th house; Shasta pada, also called Roga pada, or the Arudha of the 6th house; and Kashta pada, the Arudha of the 8th house. The 22nd Drekkana and its lord will also be found to be very dangerous, and it is the 8th house of the Drekkana chart. Also the 64th Navamsa and its lord, counted from the Natal Moon and lagna, which turn up to be the 4th houses from the Navamsa lagna and Navamsa Moon respectively. -- Further, Jaimini Rishi suggests the following, seen in the context of rasi as well as naksatra dasas, to bring forth death: the 8th and third from Arudha pada (the Arudha of the 1st house); the 3rd and 8th from the Atmakaraka; and the 3rd and 8th from the Darapada, or Arudha of the 7th house. (* Note: Anybody who is interested in receiving an article by email, on the calculations and uses of Pada lagnas, or Arudha lagnas, please write to me separately, and I will send it). -- And finally, planets in Mrtyu-bhaga degrees, will be dangerous so far as potential disease, as well as unusual or untimely death is concerned. The Mrtyu-bhaga degrees of planets in specific signs were discussed in previous threads on this list. They are given in the Jataka-Parijata, and further discussed in Dr. K.S. Charak's book "Subtleties in Medical Astrology", a good handbook on medical astrological analysis. Jaimini suggests taking the part of the body as suggested by the sign type of whatever sign is in the Drekkana lagna. Visti has given examples in at least two charts so far as to how this works, I have shown one. But just for the sake of isolating the Drekkana chart by itself as illustrative of disease, lets analyze a chart just using the Drekkana itself, and ascribing parts of the body as normally would be the procedure when analyzing from the rasi chart. Take the following chart: Male November 7, 1947 02:28 AM MST Billings, MT USA * He was afflicted with throat cancer, and died from it. Take the Rasi chart first, then see corresponding indications in the Drekkana chart: The lagna lord Sun, and 2nd lord Mercury join Libra, the Roga-pada, and come under the strong malefic influence of maraka lord Saturn and Badhaka lord Mars. They aspect from the Mrtyu-pada sign, which is Cancer. So the physical resiliency to fight disease is weak constitutionally, while the specific part of the body representing the throat (lord of 2nd house) are specifically vulnerable. Venus, additionally, as the dispositor of lagna lord and 2nd lord Mercury, is very closely conjoined 8th lord Jupiter, how also happens to be in the Mrtyu-bhaga degree of Scorpio. In Scorpio, Jupiter's Mrtyu-bhaga is 10 degrees, and Jupiter is at 9:54. Jupiter also rules the 64th Navamsa, thus increasing his virulence. Further, the Arudha of the 8th house (Cancer), or Mrtyu-pada, along with Mars and Saturn as mentioned above, aspect the afflicted Venus by rasi aspect. Venus is the natural karaka of the glands and the part of the body identified as the throat, and so all of this greatly enhances the potential to do destruction in the form of the terrible disease of throat cancer. Drekkana chart: Here, the disease potential is yet more strongly indicated. The 2nd house has Rahu, and its lord Venus is in the 8th with Ketu and Jupiter. Now, remember that Jupiter is in MB in the birth chart, and that hostility follows in all the varga charts as well. In Drekkana, Jupiter rules the 12th, and disposits Mars and Saturn, and thus - similar to the rasi chart -- brings the roof down on the part of the body indicated by Venus, namely the throat. As we learned from the brain tumor case given previously, a stigmatic Jupiter expands Kapha, and thus not only is responsible for tumors, but for cancerous growths also. Also remember, that the 8th house of the Drekkana chart is the 22nd Drekkana, and is considered dangerous so far as disease potential and vulnerability to it is concerned. Finally, and very importantly, in the Drekkana chart the Roga-pada and Mrtyu-pada both fall in the same sign/house, namely the 4th house/Cancer. By rasi aspect, they afflict the 2nd house, as well as its lord Venus, who is already traumatized in the 8th house and afflicted as mentioned above. * The native died during the Vimsottari maha-dasa of Rahu, sub-period of Saturn early in 1996. See the obvious maraka indications of this major and sub-period in Rasi, Drekkana, Trimsamsa, and Shastamsa charts. The disease potential is even more dramatically seen in D-30 and D-6 charts, although it is visible in Rasi, and more visible too in the Drekkana chart. We can have further analysis of the maraka period in future mails, if anyone is interested. CONCLUSIONS In this example, the disease of throat cancer, as well as the event of death which resulted from it, is easily seen in all of the following charts: Rasi, Drekkana, Shastamsa, and Trimsamsa. Oftentimes, however, a disease is not easily identified in the Rasi chart, and may instead be hinted at subtly. Divisional charts, upon careful analysis, will most always show what is hinted at in the Rasi, in more specific terms. In other instances, a Rasi chart may graphically show a specific disease. So none of the above should be neglected. Divisional charts, however, most often specify and identify certain areas of karma more directly, and thus should never be taken lightly. Further examples will be posted, given time. Best wishes, Robert ===================================== Robert A. Koch, Vedic Astrologer 760 NW Broken Arrow Rd.
