Namaste dear ones on the list!! i wonder if it is at all appropriate to address other list members in such a way??? is it not possible to have our Jyotishi discussions, no matter how strong, and full of disagreements, without descending to personal lambasting? Perhaps we need to read and edit our letters before we send them on to the list....we should not be in the business of hurting other people's feelings with comments on intelligence and so on...that goes a bit too far. it would have been fine to leave the sentence closed just before that last unnecessary comment. if we DO make such comments about each other, we can be sure that this will undermine any value our philosophical and jyotisha comments might have had for the audience...what is more important here...spreading the knowledge of Jyotish, despite our disagreements and different view-points, or is our own ego more important than this knowledge? if we HAVE to be right, then we have closed the door ourselves on learning anything new, and of value... better to always consider oneself a 'beginner' and treat everyone with humility...we never know if that person masquerading as a 'fool' might not really be a mahatma, just testing us....and by going into humility, we are always open to learning more. When we admit that we do not know much and that really we ARE just beginners, then the flower of our hearts can open, in humility, and waft forth its perfume of Divine Love over all...if we wish to lock up our hearts in the jail of the ego's insistence on being right, WE will only be the losers, not anyone else!!! i think that this list has no trouble with disagreements over the various doctrines, so much as "ego" troubles between the various proponents of those doctrines...possibly we should read each other's letters with a little less defensiveness, and a little more humility...perhaps we should see each other Jyotishi as a ray of light, illuminating a particular portion of the universe...it is not the same everywhere, and what works in one place for one person may not work for another...intelligence has nothing to do with it...it may just be "propensity" or inclination...a "feeling" part of the mind... i have the feeling that we could argue over the precise definitions of the colour yellow...and would be equally in the dark as to any real progress if the egos take over..."MY way or the Highway" attitudes will only get us into another war... if we do not have peace in our own hearts, how can we ever expect to bring peace into this world? i love to read these long arguments over the various aspects of Jyotish, but i DO NOT love to read the personal diatribes, when they slip out...self-censorship is the best in this department...we can write a letter full of our self-defensive feelings, and then we can go away for awhile...then come back and reread and edit that letter, carefully removing any personally negative comments...and trying to bring in a positive, uplifting, educational feeling rather than a warlike, depressing defensive one. if we wish others to treat us well, we must make the first step! In the Divine Mother's Love, and in Her Service, this child of Hers, bows again and again most humbly to his beloved sisters and brothers, the Jyotishis on this list!! praying urgently for peace and Divine Love between them. as ever, your own self, visvanathan Om Amrtesvaryai Namah!!
