But my understanding is that 2nd house shows education in general (schooling,teachers, etc), 4th house shows educational degrees, 5th house shows inclination of the mind (intelligence), and 9th house shows higher education (universities, philosophy, religion, natural law {jyotish}, etc). Parashara gives education in the 5th house "Yantram, mantram chaiv vidyam......" Read it. Though many are inclined to take education from 4th as they take father from 10th. Contradictions in astrology exist since it was born and shall continue to exist till you and me are alive...... so forget controversies and try to understand the gist. No one has the final word, not even you and not even me. I just give my views without meaning it to be final and without meaning for others to start following me or become my disciples. I dont want to become a "Guru". I only want to remain a "student" throughout my life. There is no place for "Ego" in my life. And my humble view is that those who work with "intuitions" fail often but those who work "systematically" fail but fail seldom. Now mother or education. Simultaneously I would look for affliction to Moon or Mercury and look up the respective vargas for Mother and Education and the ongoing dasha to decide, what is getting afflicted. Yea, I had got it y'day and thought would let it go because was there any use in telling you that the first child was a Son and the second a Daughter and the timing was also out. One born in August, 1987 and the second in August, 1991. And the transits you had mentioned were also all out. Check, Jupiter and Saturn were both blessing the child birth in August 1987 and August, 1991. Having done astrology in India and when I am still doing it here so I am aware of the controversies surrounding astrology in India and these controversies get compounded when they get published as books. I was rather surprised when Anshu asked about the use of Trimshamsha, the traditional method of casting Trimshamsha was only quoted and the one which is so called secret trimshamsha did not get posted to the list. May be someone may post it someday saying that it was closely held secret and got revealed to him/her now. Coming back to education. I had requested you in an earlier post to read Shri K.N. Rao's "Predicting through Char Dasha" and now I would request you to read "Karkamsha and Mandook Dasha" by Shri K.N. Rao. Yes, I read him and understand what he says. He also takes education from the 5th house and Robert also pointed out this in one of his posts. This controversy was also there when he wrote a series of articles in Astrological Magazine in 80s and which got settled in favour of 5th house, even then. What I request you now is that please include both houses in your future studies and then tell the list, which house works best for education. The second house, 4th house, 9th house and not the primary houses of education but secondary and supporting houses to the 5th house, the primary house of education and which gets confirmed in Chaturvimshamsha. Robert has already done this exercise and he says, for him 4th house gives him good results, very good. I am happy that he is getting results this way, and if he can show me, through his examples, I may also start using the 4th house, but for the present, its only the 5th house, the planets in the 5th, the 5th house from Karaka Mercury and the dasha running at the time, one is undergoing education. These factors I include in my study for deciphering education. Must say I didn't pay particular attention to previous mentions of his books. But my interest has been triggered now so some serious book hunting is on the agenda.
