Guest guest
Ann: For Nietzsche's genius, look at 5th(intelligence) from Mercury, karaka for intellgence. Saturn is there in its own sign Aquarius. Also, 5th from Scorpio Asc and Moon is Jupiter in Pisces with Uranus. Sounds like a rather bright fellow to me. As for genius, that's a socially constructed label that may have more to do with being at the right place at the right time and bringing something to fruition than sheer IQ or whatever. Perhaps genius= intelligence + initiative + fame... Guest guest
Namaste Christopher and Anne, Just to add to your points, the karaka of Genius is Jupiter, along with Mercury. He is well placed, in the house of intelligence. Mercury is approaching extreme exaltation, which is 2.5 degrees away. However in this case, the combination of Mars is a hinderance on Mercury as he is the enemy and works to block his achievements. But as Mercury is more powerful, he triumphs over Mars' energy. Mars, the lagna lord, on the other hand works with Juptiter his best friend and 5th lord to make a powerful Kendra-trikona yoga. The focus here is on the 5th house, as Jupiter is the lord of the 5th in the 5th. This is where his genius comes out. Mars and Jupiter combination is a great one for philisophical learning and intelligence. The kendra-trikona yoga is the most auspicious combination and makes a combination that is otherwise malefic into a benefic one. Take a look at his lagna, with debilitated Moon and Rahu forming the kendra- trikona yoga, as the 9th and 1st lord, again giving genius. As for his philisophical fame, look to his dasama with Mercury again exalted, and 5 planets in Sagittarius. regards, Alex J gjlist, Christopher Kevill <ckevill@i...> wrote: > Ann: > > For Nietzsche's genius, look at 5th(intelligence) from Mercury, karaka for > intellgence. I didn't realize there was a karaka of genius! Reference? I think Jupiter is more widely understood as the karaka of jnana which is wisdom. I invite others better schooled in sanskrit and the classics to correct this interpretation but that is my best guess of Jupiter's type of intelligence. It may or may not involve genius. Perhaps understanding "genius" is a semantic issue: what you consider genius I might not and vice versa. To me, genius implies a quickness of mind or least the ability for original thought, to think something that hasn't been thought of before. When you think about it, IQ tests and intelligence generally are based on the idea of speed: if you can answer these questions in a *delimited period of time* -- as opposed to "by next Tuesday" -- then you have an IQ of 132 or whatever. He is well placed, in the house of intelligence. >Mercury is approaching extreme exaltation, which is 2.5 degrees away. >However in this case, the combination of Mars is a hinderance on >Mercury as he is the enemy and works to block his achievements. But >as Mercury is more powerful, he triumphs over Mars' energy. I think there is more to the Mercury Mars conjunction than you say. First off, Mars is lagnesh here so that immmediately makes it benefic. Tied so closely with Mercury makes the native very Mercurial in his basic orientation. Mercury-Mars conjunctions make the native mentally quick if both are strong which they are here. Mars is also the karaka of logic so that helps Mercury out in the intelligence department. To my mind, Nietzsche's Mercury is very strong indeed and well-prepared for carrying out tasks of great intelligence. (I'm aware here that Mars in Scorpio lagnas isn't a great as lagneshes often are since moolatrikona sign Aries rules the 6th but to me lagnesh with Mercury gives a great intelllectual orientation to the man and with Mercury strong in Virgo, etc it really boosts his brain power.) The fact that the 5th house from Mercury (Sat in Cap) is also strong only adds to Nietzsche's towering intellect. > >Mars, the lagna lord, on the other hand works with Juptiter his best >friend and 5th lord to make a powerful Kendra-trikona yoga. Mars and Jupiter combination >is a great one for philisophical learning and intelligence. This sounds more like deductive speculation to me. What's your reference here? Do you know any other charts of "geniuses" that have Jupiter linked to the 5th house? And for that matter, can we point to charts of ordinary or less than bright people who also have Jupiter strong in the 5th? I'm not trying to be argumentative here, since I also noted this favourable Jupiter as well. My thought is that we should perhaps treat categories like "genius" as being more general and not having such specific signatures. Astrology rarely works so neatly. yours in the ether, Chris
