Namaste.

Todays translations of BPHS are incomplete and so are the volumes, so noone can

surely state whether Parasara actually covered many of the principles expounded

by Tajaka.. theres a clue to this in his depicting of the Sudarshana Chakra.

As for Jaimini.. Jaimini wrote an Upadesa, which means Advisory Stanzas, and

were not meant to create a new system, but rather supplement an existing.

In stanza 2.4.18. Jaimini says when commenting Dasa's;

"The Dasa based on constellation can be studied from Standard texts."

He also recommends Vimshottari Dasa for judging the Trimsamsa, but doesn't give

the calculations himself. Much of his advise can be compared to the writings of

Parasara, i.e. they both covered the same topics. And I also have a slight idea

that R Santhanam messes up the translation of Chara Dasa at one point in BPHS,

and confuses the Antar Dasa reckoning of Chara Dasa with the Narayana

Dasa(Chapter 51, stanzas 7-12). If so then Jaimini surely was only supplementing

Parasara's or other existing works.

Sources state that Jaimini was a student of Vyasa.. Vyasa was the son of

Parasara!

So lets try sorting this after my bookshelf, i.e. in the order of appearance:

1. Parasara

2. Jaimini

3. Varahamihira, Garga, etc.

4. Mantreswara.

Agastya, Narada and Dhurvasya would have been pre-Parasara, no doubt.

Bhrigu however i'm not sure about.

Satyacharya and other authors, would be after Parasara, but I haven't come to

any decissive conclusion as of yet.. I will once i have them on my bookshelf!

So conclussion is that if Parasara was the exponent of almost all of Jyotish in

his excessive volumes(some unrecovered), then why give it the name Parasari

Jyotish.

Krishnamurty, was brilliant enough to use a small part of Parasara's teachings

to make a perfect system of prediction based on the Nakshatras. Some also have

the mastery of Astakavarga, and etc.

So what exactly would you classify as Parasari Jyotish?

Best wishes, Visti.
