I agree, and I think this is the consummate answer for the question of why some people get the disease with the above afflictions, whereas others don't. * A couple of things come to mind here, in addition to what you have said: The first is, and more importantly, that for Libra rising, a Rx Jupiter is just as bad an affliction on lagna and lagna lord, as is Mars and Saturn. Rulership of the 6th puts Jupiter in an odd position, wherein normally he is a gentleman, but is forced to assume the role of a bad boy for Libra lagnas. Retrogression of functional malefics only adds to their virulence, and this can be seen in the case here. * Further, by Rasi aspects, Saturn/Mars/Jupiter all afflict the 5th house, and the fact that Saturn rules the 5th, does not spare the 5th. * Still, the lagna and its lord are well afflicted here. The sign Venus Libra the kidneys, and Venus rules the sugar and fluids to a certain degree. It is worthy of notation, that blindness is caused by affliction to Sun and Moon, wheres B.V. Raman also used to speak of Venus as a karaka for vision. Sun and Jupiter are karakas for the 5th house, and this is where their participation comes in. Anyway, related illness, such as kidney disease and blindness result, and your explanation is very significant, i.e. that Venus should additionally be the lagna lord, in order that afflictions to it should bring about blood sugar imbalances. * Moon is the chief karaka for fluids as well as Lymphatic functions, and presumably due to a weakened Pancreas (5th house), insulin production declines, thus putting too much stress on the liver. Remote karmic origins for this, can be too much pursuit of desire (Venus) to the neglect of one's spiritual consciousness (Jupiter/Sun/Moon), or the instructions of one's gurus or elders. >I would also say that varga charts are probably central to this whole >question. Look at the D-6 of your first case. Asc is around 11Ge58 while >rashi 5L Saturn aspects it near exact at 13Sg27. Good point above D-6, and I didn't think to use actual varga degrees. That's interesting. The chart that brings it home for this case, is the Trimsamsa. Note that in Trimsamsa, no planets will every occupy the signs of the luminaries, because the Trimsamsas are ruled by the 5 planets, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn. These represent the five Tattvas, or elements, through which the senses are engaged: Mercury, earth; Venus, water; Mars, fire; Jupiter, ether; and Saturn, air. Through our engagement of the senses with their objects, we generate karmas on the physical plane. So, whatever signs/houses are afflicted in the Trimsamsa chart, show how transgressions or misdeeds had been the result of our pursuit of desire, and thus wherein suffering occurs, by destiny, in the current lifetime. In this native's chart, all the malefics, including 7th lord Mercury, afflict the Moon. This accounts for disturbance to blood sugar, and bodily fluids generally, as well as eyesight. the native became stone blind at the age of 24.
