Romans

014:021 It is good neither to eat flesh, nor to drink

wine, nor any thing whereby thy brother stumbleth, or

is offended, or is made weak.

Proverbs

015:017 Better is a dinner of herbs where love is,

than a stalled ox and hatred therewith.

017:001 Better is a dry morsel, and quietness

therewith, than an house full of sacrifices with

strife.

023:020 Be not among winebibbers; among riotous eaters

of flesh:

Daniel

1:012 Prove thy servants, I beseech thee, ten days;

and let them give us pulse to eat, and water to drink.

1:013 Then let our countenances be looked upon before

thee, and the countenance of the children that eat of

the portion of the king's meat: and as thou seest,

deal with thy servants.

1:014 So he consented to them in this matter, and

proved them ten days.

1:015 And at the end of ten days their countenances

appeared fairer and fatter in flesh than all the

children which did eat the portion of the king's meat.

001:016 Thus Melzar took away the portion of their

meat, and the wine that they should drink; and gave

them pulse.

Genesis

001:029 And God said, Behold, I have given you every

herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the

earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a

tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.

This is my two cents from the Holy Bible.

.................

None of these quoted items is a direct plea for refraining from meat. They are

actually appeals for consideration and moderation, for the observation of fasts.

They are also a warning against excess and gluttony.

A recent study in Munich shows a remarkable discovery: the actual amount of

energy we expend during a day is 4 times as much as we can get from food? Where

does the rest come from? .... Sunlight and atmosphere. Apparently there are are

a number of peole in Australia who live on "love" and fresh air. I had an aunt

wo lived for thirty years on tea and milk alone, was actively in social duties -

helping families out if the housewife was too sick to do the housekeeping. But

suddenly one day she started eating again like anybody else!

This aunt was very fair-skinned for an Indian, could pass for an Italian. But it

is interesting to note that all the incarnations and Durga are described as

"dark, emerald". Green is the colour of chlorophyll, which can convert sunlight

into energy........ Is that a secret of the avatars, that they could live

without food at times?

Hi El Suelmo,

Thanks for the references, Christians often enough deny any reference

in the Bible such as this, and claim that meat eating is not a

problem.

Read somewhere that King James (King James Version of the Bible) hated

vegetarians and had words against eating meat changed in 600s. Plus, he had

"Thou shalt not suffer a poisoner to live," to "Thou shalt not suffer a witch

to live," because he hated the nature religions too. He was extremely cruel.

Most of the time Christianity today seems to have nothing to do with what

Christ said and did. Have read seriously good arguments that Christ was a

vegetarian.

Too bad the original stuff isn't does like this copy of the

Bhagavad-Gita--original language, transliteration, translation, all right

there.

I have been personally "belted" with the Bible so much and now realise

not one of the belters and thumpers knew what they were talking about; it was

all ego and needing to feel superior and to be honest lust for power. They

actually drove me away from God for so long. I was 27 before I realised I

was not atheist just anti-Thumpers. I know, that's their path but they are

doing it to my sons and as my younger son said "it's just Grrrrrrrrrrr."

They have to learn to look really hard and discern a person's intent. I get

so happy when I find a kind spiritual person, any other quality should be a

tip-off to run the other way. "A merry heart doeth good like a medicine,

but a sour spirit drieth the bones."

Yes I wholeheartedly agree that they need proper translations from

the original texts. I am so happy that they unearthed all of those

gnostic texts. They make extremely interesting reading, and show the

real similarity between Christ's teachings and Eastern philosophy. I

hope one day they will unearth more of the original texts.

Dear Friends,

Why dont we revert back to astrology. I think, we have discussed this non

issue for a sufficiently long time now and with no tangible results. I

think, lets leave it to Mad Cow and Foot and Mouth to handle.

Saturn has little to do with meat eating in the 2nd house.

Moreover, it is a personal food habbit of the person depending on the

surroundings and environment he lives in.

Being a vegetarian always helps in enhancing one's spiritual life.

But what can be done of the Tattvas and Gunas a person is born with.

Basically I am also a vegetarian but am not averse to people who eat meat

and I dont call them non-spiritual.

looks like i am musing to myself so friends dont bother about this mail, if

it does not appeal to you.

Manoj

There is a lot more to the Christian Teachings's than what one is exposed

to in the West, there is a whole mystical tradition in the Eastern

Orthodox Churches that few know about. A person may have had a bad

experience in one of the Christian Churches, and see things through that

experience. It's very easy to set up straw men and knock them down in all

these e-mails. There are people out there that if many of these arguments

concerning the Bible etc. were presented would be easily trashed. I am

not writing this to put forth my own debating prowess (that I gave up

long ago), but to simply say that there are a lot of opinions and a lot

of opinions have serious logical fallacies, total lack of historical and

archeological support etc. I for one have lived the debate scenario and

seen its fruitlessness, and the recent barrage of misunderstandings and

circular debating is evidence that this is no different. This is not to

address any certain posting , but an appeal that we move on to more

topics that will help us all to grow in our understanding of Jyotish.
