<<After doing western astrology for over 25 years... I am now trying to learn

Vedic.... but... I am afraid it will be for my next lifetime>>

Dear Bonnie, why wait for tomorrow when you can do it today? I was studying

western astrology for 6 years before i came across with vedic. It took me about

12 months to convert my studies and collection of charts but it was a positive

step i made. In the beginning there is a "cultural shock" but once you get used

to it and you find books giving a clear understanding of vedic, you start to see

how easy it is. Like any other science, vedic astrology requires the theory and

the practice. Your experience of western is very helpful cos the meaning of the

planets in signs and houses is very similar but i would say that it is like

studying a post graduate degree, cos you go beyond your level. I do not intend

to undermine western astrology which has done a lot of positive contributions on

the pshycological level, but vedic has more tools to help people more. We need

a lot of vedic astrologers around to help more people and western astrologers

can help a lot by converting into vedic. Although a minority in the west at

present, vedic is destined to become big in the near future, therefore, why

wait?

Some of the confusing issues confronting the newcomers are which ayanamsa to

follow, true or mean Rahu, and northern or southern style charts.

There are many ayanamsas on the market, some symbolic, other especulative and

very few attempting to follow the real thing. Among all of them i find that the

Lahiri's ayanamsa is the most accurate. Mr Lahiri has even been paid by the

government of India to do a proper astronomical research and come to a

conclusion about wich ayanamsa is the right one to follow. Therefore, the

Indian government implemented that ayanamsa to try to avoid confusion in the

making of panchangas or calendars.

Mean Rahu is the one to follow according to Parasara Muni, one of the 18 fathers

of vedic astrology.

Regarding which style of graphic to follow, the newcomer is free to chose. I

feel more easy by following the northern style graphic but it is only a question

of taste.

Dear Shane,I do not have much time to elaborate on vedic readings, but it is

something you learn in time by reading from books and from other vedic

astrologers or teachers. It is your affinity to certain books, astologers and

teachers that moulds the pattern of your readings. In time you will learn your

own ways. Unfortunately, i can not read the graphics that you posted cos they

are distorted and i can see only that moon is in Scorpio opposite mars in 1/7

houses and Ketu and Saturn are in the 4th house, and Jupiter is in the 6th. For

better readings we need the whole data cos we have to balance evrything.

However, i can tell you that vedic has 2 main systems of prediction.

One system follows the transit or motion of the planets in the sky above the

natal planets and unlike western astrology, the other main system follows the

periods of the planets or the signs.

The periods of the planets are calculated from the exact position of the moon

and those main periods are divided in sub-periods and these ones into

inter-periods. The main periods are like cosmic hours ruling your life, the

sub-periods are like cosmic minutes and the inter-periods are like cosmic

seconds of your life. You may have an appointement with someone at 10:30:00 or

during your main period of Saturn, sub-period of Mercury, inter-period of the

Moon. Those planets ruling those periods should be analized by position,

aspects (yogas) and ownership of signs, houses and constellations to give you a

view of the event in question.

Regarding transits. The chart you are giving has the moon in necha (weak) in

Scorpio and therefore likely to give some sort of mental problems like anxieties

to the native. However, the moon although necha by being in a corner of the

horoscope (corners are the 1,4,7 and 10 houses), achieves a bhanga (cancellation

of debilitation) and therefore we say that the moon shows a necha bhanga raya

yoga. Yoga means a planetary combination and raya means power.

Therefore, the native is likely to have power or influence on others.

Furthermore, Saturn from the 4th house and Mars from the 7th aspect the Moon.

There is not aspect from benefic jupiter and therefore i would say that the

native has the tendencies to lose his/her temper vey often.

In general, Mars travels in a sign for about 6 weeks but this year, Mars has a

peculiar behaviour. Mars went into Scorpio, its own sign, on 3 Feb at 08:50 GMT

and will go into Sagittarius on 10 Apr at 13:54 GMT. During its transit in

Scorpio, Mars is triggering the forces accumulated in Scorpio in any horoscope.

The more the planets aspecting Scorpio, the more energies we will see affecting

those horoscopes. Then, Mars goes retograde and on 11 June at 01:40 GMT it goes

back into Scorpio, leaving for Sagittarius on 26 Aug at 17:26 GMT. So we can

see that Mars is going to be in transit in Scorpio for more than the normal 6

weeks. Therefore, Mars is predicting a lot of friction and conflicts during its

transit in Scorpio. Horoscopes of individual or nations having Sorpio affected,

will see a very active life this year. On one hand they will see a lot of

challenges and on the other they are likely to see a time of pressure.

Best wishes
