May I suggest you check out the site of Dirah Academy. There you will find

some valuable information and their courses are wonderful.

Hi:

I'm no pro but I've been hacking away at vedic for a few years now after

starting with western so I know what you're talking about. First off,

don't read BPHS! I think it's way too dense and encyclopedic for normal

use. Get a simple book like Levacy's Beneath a Vedic Sky or Frawley or

whatever. For predictive stuff, KN Rao is good. I'm not sure where you're

at exactly, so here's one way you can make a go of it.

For making predictions, vedic relies on blending dashas with transits, with

a dose of solar returns and a few other odds and ends. But really the core

of the predictive stuff is dashas (usually vimshottari) and transits. As a

starting point, find out what dasha and antardasha you are in. Then assess

what the strengths of these planets are and what areas of life they might

affect. Say you're running a Venus dasha. Now that doesn't necessarily

have to be about love and marriage if it's sitting in the 6th house while

ruling the 3rd and 8th houses. You have to consider planets that are

aspecting Venus too. After that, you might note some transits. Now

here's a good rule to remember about transits and dashas: the transit of

the dasha lord (Venus in this case here) through its good signs (Pisces,

Taurus, and Libra) will tend to bring good Venus-type events (natal chart

willing) while dasha lord transits through its bad signs (Virgo, in

particular, but enemy signs like Leo as well) will tend to depress its

effects and cause problems. Also Jupiter and Sun transits through these

signs will bring about similar sorts of effects, although Jupiter through

the bad houses are less likely to cause hardships. So if you're running

Venus dasha now, transiting Venus is transiting its sign of exaltation

Pisces right now. This will likely bring good results for the house that

its in and houses that Venus rules.

So that's one way you can combine dasha and transits.

Another thing to consider, especially if you're in the early throes of

'vedic frustration', is to give Systems Approach (SA) a try. It is a neat,

simplified approach to vedic astrology that many people find effective.

There are web sites and tons of books on it (by VK Choudry). It takes only

a little while (a few months?)to learn the basics, and it avoids some of

the complicated often contradictory stuff that pervades the jyotish canon.

I'm familiar with SA and I think it's useful although I am not a

through-and-through practitioner of it. But if you're finding vedic

overwhelming, it's definitely worth checking out. I wish I had taken it

more seriously in my early stages of study.

Let me know where you're at and I'll give you any tips that I can muster.

Remember, though, I ain't no pro! Hopefully more learned members can offer

their insights as well.

No, but could you fill me in on what approach he takes? Is it a book about

the stock market, etc. or is it about personal money affairs?

Hi,

thank you for your response. I did Dirah. It was very very helpful and

interesting, but not 'prediction wise'. I have the books you are referring

to. I think I have already come a long way; often I can find back events I

know about. Friends tell me about the events in their life and I try to

astrologically find them. My consolation is, the same thing happened - with

the same despair ;-(( - whilst learning western astrology. but I cannot

come up with facts like : you are going to move abroad in abt 1 year. Or

something like that. Let me give you an example of a simple question I

cannot answer. This chart is from a friend, a fellow astrologer:

female, 9 oct. 1941, amsterdam (zone 1) Netherlands, 4E54, 52N22

lagna: 7.48 gemini

current dasha: Saturn - Sun

I did her chart, both western and vedic. She has a 'simple' question (as far

a simple questions exist).

In 1995 she moved from Holland to New Zealand (funny thing is that NO

western astrologer could find the move in her western chart). Now she wants

to know when she comes back and/or if it is a wise thing to buy a house

there.

I (think) I know that the current Dasha Saturn-Sun is very meaningful in

this matter. Saturn is in her 12 (far away countries) and natal Sun is

residing in the fourth (property, land etc.) Transiting Saturn is also in

the 12 right now. Transiting jupiter too. Jupiter tr. is now in 10 degrees

taurus and will have an exact aspect with Sun in 4 in a couple of months. Of

course they also lord several houses with the consequences...

Now, as a beginner, the only thing I can see, is that the subject is 'hot'

in her life. which is not much of an answer. So I think more beginners have

the same problems; even when you do see things, you don't know what to make

of it.

Hope you can teach me something...

Regards,

sanny

Christopher:

To begin, you may want to visit:

http://www.aryabhatt.com/money.htm

This is Vasudev's web page re the book.

You will notice mention of the Sarvatobhadra Chakra is

a favorite tool.

I have looked into the Sarvatobhadra Chakra, but as of

yet, have not found any additional information on it.

If anyone can 'enlighten' me on this, please get back

to me. In advance, I wouyld be very thankful.

Vasudev's book is 477 pages in length, very well laid

out, virtually no North&South charts, just tables.

Hope this helps,

and many thanks,

Yours,

Victor "Moorkha" Zubarev
