Shastiamsha

> Can someone enlighten me as to what the Shastiamasha is and how it

is determined for each planet. For instance, Goravani Jyotish say's this

of my debilitated Mars, "The Shastiamsha is Deva which means "Divine" and

is considered a benefic one". How is this determined and how would you

use this information in general natal chart interpretation? Does this

take a bit of an edge off of a challenged planet like my debilitated

Mars? I know that Shastiamasha is one of the Harmonic Charts, but other

than this I'm ignorant. I appreciate any insights you can offer.

In the above, the Shastiamsha which is "deva" etc., is referring to a

different Shastiamsha than the varga chart.

 

With just Shastiamsha, you have in a way "two techniques" both named

this name.

 

Firstly, yes, there is a Varga chart which is called this. This word

means "60 divisions".

 

Then there is this other thing, which is what you are referring to

without knowing it.

 

The 60th divisions of a Rasi, in this technique, have been assigned

names, and the nature of being either benefic or malefic. The names have

meanings which seem to be kee at least in some cases, but probably all.

 

The names often translate to things like "Wandering" and "Rod of

renunciation" etc.

 

I think the real point of the finer divisional techniques is finer

tuning or rectification. Also, simple, "fine karmic realities". Twins

often have only some finer things different between their charts for

example, yet they are different people, though alot alike.

 

I think nobody I know of uses the finer things much at all in day to day

use or application or study of Jyotish. I hardly ever hear of these

things. I think they are real, but harder to get good at.

 

In fact, I think their effects are of great importance, but I think they

require real expertise to utilize confidently. The mystical potency of

the finer things is great but more shrouded and we would have to be so

very good to see there properly.

 

That's what I think anyway.
