To provide a comprehensive list of commonly treated stones and their diverse methods of treatment would require much more time than I have to invest. You asked about carnelian, a cryptocrystaline variety of quartz. Common practices involve dyeing, to produce a more marketable color and heat treating yellow and brownish material to produce a more appealing redish-orange or orange color. Heat treatment is undetectable and dyeing is usually detected by spectrographic analysis or viewing with a Chelsea filter. The other stones you mentioned, peridot and moonstone are presently not known to be altered from their natural state. Although moonstone is sometimes painted on the back of a mounted stone to enhance it's beauty. Other gemstones that are not known to be treated are: garnet, spinel, and iolite. Heat treating involves heating the stone, or batch of stones, as is usually the case, in a special oven in which the temperature can be carefully controlled. The stones are slowly brought to the desired temperature, then slowly cooled. Heating or cooling the stones too rapidly will damage the stones causing them to shatter. Did you mean the present as in one lifetime kind of present or did you mean the present as in the whole Kali Yuga kind of present? I can't remember where I read this, but maybe you know, is it true that this Kali Yuga is going to last for 400,000 more years and that at the end of it everyone is going to be forgetful and shady?
