Guest guest
Dear Sarva Yes, you are right the jiva or soul is spiritual & belongs to the marginal energy & because of this the soul will be more happy by surrender to the source of life. The most important thing in life is sadhu sangha, or the association with sadhus or people interested in surrender to the Supreme. At one time i used to associate with sadhus and it was great to learn from them the art of surrender. Somehow at present, destiny put me in an environment in which people do not care for surrender cos they are busy in other matters. Of course surrender is very important but only few people in our days are interested on it (at least on the plane in which i am moving at the moment). Nevertheless, i find people from time to time asking for the key to surrender & when i get that opportunity i tell them what i learned from sadhus. You are right by pointing out that <<In my opinion, Parashar's "medicine" and the medicine of all sages and saints of his calibre is meant to cure the root cause of our pain in this material world.>>. In the beginning the Supreme Lord gave to Brahma the essence of the Vedas (few words only) & Brahma expanded that essence into the 4 vedas and later on into the puranas, upanishads and other vedic literature. It was about 5,000 years ago when the Supreme Lord came to gives us the Bhagavad Gita and shortly after His literary incarnation Lord Vyasadeva gave us the cream of the vedas, the Srimad Bhagavatam. >From the first chapter of the Brihat Parasara Hora Sastra, by the great Parasara Muni, we are told that Lord Visnu is the Cause of all Causes and the goal of our surrender. The best remedial measure to advise to those wanting the best medicine is to surrender to Lord Visnu. Then as the understanding progress, the jiva learns that there are higher levels of surrender and accordingly the jiva advances. Unfortunately, we are not ready for that at present. Rarely we get the opportunity to tell people about the ultimate goal of life, because in general people are more attracted to material rather than to spiritual values. Das already posted the figures showing the general interest of people in the internet. 200,627 enquires about astrology; Krishna 2,035; vedic astrology 1,670 (about 1.6% of the figure for astrology); gurus 273 (those agents that can give the direction to surrender) and yotish 1 (i think that this last one was me when i was half sleeping over the key-board). In 5 years time i expect those figures to increase in a considerable way but the figures are low at present. I would like to see the followers of vedic astrology to enquire more about the source of vedic astrology and how they can get more satisfaction to their inner needs. The first & 2nd chapter of the Brihat Parasara Hora are more elaborated in the Srimad Bhagavatam which was translated from Sanskrit and explained by the efforts of Srila Prabhupada, & those interested in that kind of information would benefit a lot by reading those books. <<Vedic literatures, of which Jyotir-ved and Ayur-ved are a part, are meant to bring us to a higher realm of understanding. They are not exclusively meant for solving erectile or digestive dysfunction.>> >From the absolute point of view, vedic literatures are meant for the revelation of the mystery of life & death and the achievement of the Supreme Lord. I know that there are many vedic astrologers that glorify themselves rather than glorify the source of vedic astrology, Lord Sri Krishna. "Men of small knowledge are very much attached to the flowery words of the Vedas, which recommend various fruitive activities for elevation to heavenly planets, resultant good birth, power, and so forth. Being desirous of sense gratification and opulent life, they say that there is nothing more than this." In the minds of those who are too attached to sense enjoyment and material opulence, and who are bewildered by such things, the resolute determination for devotional service to the Supreme Lord does not take place. The Vedas deal mainly with the subject of the three modes of material nature. O Arjuna, become transcendental to these three modes. Be free from all dualities and from all anxieties for gain and safety, and be established in the self. " The above is from the Bhagavad gita As It IS by His Divine Grace Srila Prabhupada. Chapter 2 texts 42 to 46. "I am seated in everyone's heart, and from Me come remembrance, knowledge and forgetfulness. By all the Vedas, I am to be known. Indeed, I am the compiler of Vedanta, and I am the knower of the Vedas. " BG Ch 15-15 Here, Lord Krishna reveals that He is the One to be known. Unfortunately, there are some individuals that claim that they are the supreme and cheat people in the process. <<Certainly that's part of it, having a comfortable, materially satisfying life, bur it's not the whole picture. I think that if we loose sight of the GOAL of Vedic literature, which is spiritual progress, self knowledge and salvation, then we remain blind to the ultimate, priceless treasure of the Vedas.>> I agree with you in this one as well but lets wait for vedic astrologers in general to drop their sectarian views & come to a single language, that the vedic literatures are coming from a single source & that we should acknowledge that Supreme source. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to give my inner feelings. dandavats natabara
